I am confused. Is the belly in or out?

I just walked by here. The whole site is blocked off, including the sidewalk. Pedestrian pathway set up in the street. I guess that means progress!

I walked by yesterday. Excavation is in full swing.
Very excited that this one is finally moving forward.

Another one of those neo-art-deco wonder towers. NY loves its retro, that's for sure.

I don't know how I feel now that there will be a tower in Lower Manhattan that will be taller than 4 WTC. Up until now the WTC was always the focal point of the southern tip of Manhattan, but I am looking forward to seeing that balance altered. Especially with a design as good as this one. NYC is really on a roll with building towers with great designs: 45 Broad Street, 111 West 57th, 53W53, Central Park Tower, Flatbush Tower and of course Hudson Yards.

Historically speaking the WTC really threw off the balance of the Lower Manhattan skyline by creating a single focal point. It looked completely out of place before Battery Park City developed its cityscape. These new towers will help to bring back the balance.

Have to disagree. The Twins were epic. They deserved that focal point. It made the most famous skyline in the world for 30 years.

They grew into their popularity over those decades. Battery Park City made them less soar thumbs than what they could have been. But lets agree to disagree since this is going a bit off topic.

I hope the finished product is closer to this muted bronze look than the bright, almost gold we've seen in other renderings. LM doesn't need anything quite so garish.

Also, it's just occurred to me (sorry if it's already been brought up in this thread) that the "filigree" has echoes of the WTC tridents. I wish they would simplify those elements -- eliminate the criss-crossing at the mechanical floors, remove the inverted tridents at the top of the crown -- to really let that element shine.

I agree, the color would definitely fit better being more of a bronze rather than bright gold. About the criss-crossing cladding, it makes it look even more like the WTC columns than without, if you look at the tops of the towers.

Also, has anyone got any picture updates of the construction site?

You know what, I completely forgot that the tridents merged like that at the top. I’m thinking of the “tuning fork” look at the base, which is so iconic.

I guess this crown design really *is* meant to harken to the crown of the Twins... but I️ think, given the shape of the crown, a simpler version would hold together better. But that’s just me.
