Theres a lot planned for the airports this year, Skopje and Ohrid airports are finally to be given to a private operator under a 20 year concession. As we have an election coming up the tender process has been temporarely delayed i think although it should be completed later this year.

The criteria for the Skopje airport are a new terminal with atleast 40,000m2 and 6 gates (im not sure if they mean airbridges) to be built within 20 months, extension of the current runway by 500m to around 3000m, parking, some road infrastructure around the airport as well as a new cargo terminal.

Apparently the German company Hochtief, operator of Tirana and Athens airports is interested.

Quote:

Thumbs up

TAV bids for Macedonian airport

TAV Airports Holding, which runs Istanbul's Atatürk Airport, said it was the sole bidder for a contract to build and operate airports in Macedonia. Official results of the auction for passenger airports in the Macedonian cities of Skopje and Ohrid and a cargo airport in Stip have not been announced yet, TAV said yesterday. The Skopje and Ohrid airports have a combined capacity of about 700,000 passengers.

Turkish TAV Airports Holding 'TAV' submitted the sole bid in a tender for the operation of two airports and construction of a new cargo terminal in Macedonia. The tender includes rights to operate two international airports at Skopje and Ohrid for 20 years as well as to construct Stip airport's cargo terminal.

Even with one offer, the tender procedure is valid and in line with laws, chairman of the evaluation documentation commission Igor Janusev said Monday.

TAV President Mustafa Sani Sener said the company's offer was rather favorable.

- We are speaking about an investment of Euro 200 million, while the airports' annual passenger capacity is only at 680,000. If you believe in the future of your country, you will fight for this tender. If our offer is accepted, we shall do everything in our power to make the Macedonian airports the most competitive ones in the region, Sener said.

- I believe that Macedonia will join the European Union and NATO, hence the number of passengers will gradually increase, he added.

The Government has decided to offer a twenty year concession for Skopje and Ohrid Airports 'Alexander the Great' and 'St. Paul the Apostle' and the successful company is expected to modernise the infrastructure at both airports and expand the runway at Skopje. The concession agreement of Skopje Airport includes refurbishing of its current facilities, namely improved electrical systems, x-ray equipment, development of the self-service check-in equipment and construction of an administrative area within the terminal.

The chosen company will also have to participate in the construction of a third airport intended for cargo transport near Stip.

I`m glad that the turkish firm won the tender

@bobby

Well an airport in strumica would have made much more sense than Shtip (the cargo airport is IMO the main reason why just one of the finalists bid for the concession)
Anyway hope you get one soon

Welcome news, we definetely need a new airport, having said that its a little dissapointing that the other 3 companies didn't even make a bid in the end. If everything goes according to plan Skopje should get a new airport terminal 20 months after the concession starts (atleast thats what the agreement stipulates )

TAV signs agreement for Airports Concession
Minister of Transport Mile Janakieski and CEO of Turkish company "TAV", Mustafa Sani Sener signed Wednesday an agreement for concession of Skopje and Ohrid airports in the next 20 years, along with the commitment on construction of a new cargo airport in Stip.

"Macedonia deserves this investment, which would enable improvement of services for Macedonian citizens and all those coming in the country", said Minister Janakieski after the signing ceremony.

According to him, besides modern airports, the state expects budget revenues of Euro 30-40 million from the concession agreement.

"The annual amount paid by the Turkish investors will depend from the number of passengers at the airports", added Janakieski.

The Transport Minister expects an increase of the current annual number of 500,000 passengers to 2-3 million.

"TAV" official Sani Sener promised that the company would construct contemporary airports in Macedonia. The Turkish company is to invest Euro 200 million in the first three years.

Finally, if all goes according to plan new terminal should be finished in under 2 years. (sorry for tiny pics)
