Cebu’s Camotes Islands get attention from govt
Monday, 25 May 2009 20:40 CEBU CITY—Local leaders in northeastern Cebu are channeling infrastructure projects into the Camotes Islands to lift the islands’ tourism standards. The idea is to bring its infrastructure on par with the more established island destinations in Central Philippines. Rep. Red Durano Cebu said Camotes’ biggest problem remains its infrastructure, particularly road network and accommodations. Local leaders have also identified the group of islands’ accessibility from the main island of Cebu as another problem. At present, local motorboats play the Danao-Camotes route and occasional fast crafts from this city go to Camotes. “We believe Camotes can offer so much more. When [its accessibility has been addressed] there should be more tourists coming in,” Durano, the brother of Tourism Secretary Ace, said. “We want to be the alternative destinations to Mactan and Bohol.” He said leaders are looking at the prospect of a ride-on, ride-off (Roro) operator to serve the Danao-Camotes route and encourage vehicle owners to drive to the three main islands of Camotes. Local leaders admit they first have to fix the roads of Camotes before car-riding tourists come rushing in. Many villages in the islands also lack electricity. Durano has given P7 million of his priority development-assistance fund for the island group’s road projects on top of with millions more being allocated by the towns of Tudela, San Franciso, Poro and Pilar for Camotes. He said there is also a plan to establish a tourist center in Danao City, the main jump-off point for the hour-long boat ride to Camotes. The long-term plan is to rehabilitate the airstrip in Camotes to accept chartered and commercial flights from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport. Mactan-based flying schools currently use the airstrip. Camotes’ 20,000-hectare land area consists of lush vegetation, spectacular sceneries, white sand beaches, breathtaking cliffs, forest reserves and Lake Danao, its crown jewel that is surrounded by mangrove forests. http://businessmirror.com.ph/home/re...rom-govt-.html

Just got home from Bohol and I must say nga murag mas organized ilang tourism industry didto. Mas han-ay siya kumpara diri sa atoa. Kung si Leo Lastimosa pa ang pasulti-on, nagkompyensa ra daw ang Sugbo.
Anyway, I'd just like to know, asa man g'yud mangadto ang majority sa atong mga turista (both local and foreign)? Diri ra ba sila concentrated sa metro (Cebu, Mandaue, Lapulapu)? Or naa ba nila'y maabot ug Boljoon, Bantayan, Moalboal, Danao, ugup?

Cebu, on the other hand, is focused on a lot of things. But if you visit the destinations here, naa man pud ang mga souvenirs. Accessible halos tanan spots nato. And daghan projects informing people about them. Lingaw lang ang Bohol kay every spot nga hunungan nimo, makafeel gyud ka nga turista ka kay tungod sa souvenir items ug pagtagad sa mga locals. But minus these things, I think daghan pa dapat buhaton sa Bohol.

In Cebu diverse and focus nato.. beach, business, nightlife etc.. IMHO, It is incorrect to say na mas organized ang Bohol although they are also organized.. Because as far as i know, in Cebu grabe ka organized and well coordinated ang mga stakeholders in the promotion of Cebu not just in the country but all over the world.. likewise with the improvement of tourist facilities. what is lacking lang jud is ang all out support sa local governments nato.... In fact and gina fight nasad karon sa mga stakeholders is for Cebu to have direct flights in cities in Europe, China and the Middle East since this will surely bring more tourists in our province.
