But it's a pity that almost all of them were demolished due to the construction boom during past few decades.

Military Hospital, Bowen Road, Mid-Levels, Hong Kong Island, c. 1925-30.
Often referred to simply as the Bowen Road Hospital, this splendid group of buildings in red brick commanding an excellent view of the harbour, was built in 1903-1906 for the use of the garrison, and was officially opened on the 1st of July 1907. It consisted of two blocks, each 3 storeyed high, containing wards and the central, administrative, block-all clearly seen in this excellent photograph. The total number of beds was about 150. Even during the Japanese occupation, 1942-45, portion of the Hospital was used for the sick prisoners-of-war requiring hospital care. It continued in use until 1967, when the new military hospital in Kowloon replaced it. The Bowen Road building was then handed over to the Government and converted into school premises.

Rainstorm, Hong Kong, July 1926.
Rainfall, described at the time as ''phenomenal'' during a prolonged and very severe thunderstorm hit Hong Kong on the 19th July 1926. 21 inches of rain fell in 18 hours causing severe flooding and massive landslides. The photograph shows St. Francis Street, in Wan Chai extensively damaged by the rainstorm.

View of Wan Chai and Causeway Bay prior to the East Praya Reclamation which began in 1921. markets for the proposed reclamation can be seen in the Bay. The East Point promontory and Jardine, Matheson & Co.'s warehouses are in the centre. Kellett Island, named after Commander H Kellent of the schooner '' Starling'' (in the early 1840s), is seen on the left. A fort was constructed on it in 1841 and battery in 1854, later converted into an ammunition magazine. The East Praya reclamation, in the 1920s, would shorten the channel between it and Hong Kong Island. After the 2nd World War, Kellett Island would be taken over by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, and in the 1960s it would be joined to Hong Kong by a causeway

Yes its very disappointing. Much worst is rennovation and modification of older buildings say the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

At least the old BoC is preserved.

It may not be a good example but its an iconic buidling in Central along with The Prince's Building.

Anyway, was checking out some of the photos and I noticed how the old Royal HK Police wore shorts.

There needs to be a lot more demolition across Central before Prince's Building or Mandarin Oriental become iconic. HSBC glares for attention across the street, the round windows at Jardine House have withstood the test of time, and then there's IFC2.

Nathan Road, Kowloon, c.1930.
Modest, 2-3 storey-high colonial-style houses line both sides of the street. There are few people on the street and only three motor vehicles visible. One of them is a No. 7 bus, a small single-decker. The same numbered bus would continue on this route for many years to come. Note the traffic sign in the middle of the road proclaiming the speed limit of 20 miles per hour! With so few vehicles on the road, this seems an excessive safety precaution. 50 years later this peaceful scene would be transformed into a bustling shopping area with high-rise commercial buildings and multitude of tourists.

in view of the tram post and electric wires, it is obvious that it is somewhere on hong kong island. the little hill on the left should have long gone, maybe it was part of the morrison hill? or the buildings on the left was where "華潤" was erected a while ago, and the street was actually Lee garden road and behind the hill was Kai chiu road, and that this hill was where henessy center was located?

Modest, 2-3 storey-high colonial-style houses line both sides of the street. There are few people on the street and only three motor vehicles visible. One of them is a No. 7 bus, a small single-decker. The same numbered bus would continue on this route for many years to come. Note the traffic sign in the middle of the road proclaiming the speed limit of 20 miles per hour!
