The credit goes to my wife who clicked the photos on our travel.The kalvarayan ghat road and the tamarind trees from Tiruapthur-Arur-Salem were really pleasant so that I drove slowly to enjoy them..

Dowsarpandi you would really enjoy this next month as the rains might have enhanced the beauty.I hope the road that was laid recently from Tirupathur - uthangarai withstands the rain.My wishes for a good trip..

திண்டுக்கல்:பெரியகுளத்திலிருந்து, கும்பக்கரை, அடுக்கம் வழியாக, கொடைக்கானல் செல்ல அமைக்கப்பட்ட ரோடு சேதமடைந்துள்ளதால், தனியார் நிலங்களை கையகப்படுத்தி, புதிய ரோடு அமைக்க முடிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது.கொடைக்கானலுக்கு, சுற்றுலா பயணிகள் வருகை அதிகரித்து வருவதால், சீசன் மாதங்களில் போக்குவரத்து நெரிசல் அதிகளவில் ஏற்படுகிறது.மன்னவனூரில், அரசின், "மெகா டூரிசம்' மையம் அமைக்கும் பணியும் துவங்க உள்ளதால், வடமாநிலத்தை சேர்ந்த சுற்றுலா பயணிகள், அதிகளவில் வந்து செல்வர் என எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.

இதனால், கொடைக்கானல் செல்வதற்கு ஒரு வழியும், திரும்புவதற்கு ஒரு வழியும் ஏற்படுத்த, நெடுஞ்சாலைத் துறை முடிவு செய்துள்ளது. வத்தலக்குண்டு, பழநியிலிருந்து, கொடைக்கானல் செல்ல ரோடு வசதி உள்ளது. மூன்றாவதாக, கும்பக்கரையிலிருந்து அடுக்கம் வழியாக, கொடைக்கானல் செல்ல, பாதை அமைக்கப்பட்டது. 5 கி.மீ., தூரத்திற்கு வனப்பகுதி இருந்ததால், ரோட்டை பராமரிப்பதில் சிக்கல் ஏற்பட்டது.

மழை காலங்களில் அரிப்பு ஏற்பட்டதை சீரமைக்க முடியாததால், பயன்படுத்த முடியாத நிலையில் சாலை உள்ளது.சர்வே: அடுக்கம் முதல் கும்பக்கரை வரை உள்ள ரோட்டில், வனப்பகுதி உள்ள, 5 கி.மீ., சாலைக்கு மாற்றாக, தனியார் நிலங்களை கையகப்படுத்தி, சாலை அமைக்கும் சர்வேயை, நெடுஞ்சாலைத் துறை துவக்கியுள்ளது. தனியார் நிலங்களுக்கு இழப்பீடு வழங்க, முதற்கட்டமாக அரசு, 60 லட்சம் ரூபாய் ஒதுக்கீடு செய்துள்ளது.

Chennai: The roads of Chennai seem to be getting deadlier by the day. According to statistics in the recently released report titled Accidental Death and Suicides in India (ADSI 2011), prepared by the National Crime Records Bureau, Chennai has recorded the highest number of road accidents. The number is a staggering 9,845 cases in the year 2011.



This is the highest among 53 cities in the country last year, and has almost doubled from 2010 when 5,123 road accidents were recorded. Followed by Chennai is Delhi, distant second with 6,065 road accidents, while Bangalore clocked 6,031. Against the backdrop of these figures, the number of deaths in road accidents in Chennai might give a little relief to the motorists. A total of 1,399 lives were lost in road mishaps in Chennai, while Delhi recorded 1,679 fatalities.

Interestingly, Chennai also has the most dangerous roads and the least diligent motorists in Tamil Nadu, according to the report. Other major cities in Tamil Nadu do not even come close to Chennai as far as road mishaps go. Coimbatore reported 1,131 cases while Madurai recorded 685 and Trichy 781.

Please update your experience with some photos after your trip. I used to travel in this route in 1996 - 2001. It used to be really horrible. After seeing Kunils pictures I am wondering, is that the same road.

First half of the journey is over.. Did Delhi - Agra - Gwalior - Jhansi - Nagpur - Hyderabad - Bangalore - chennai last week.. I returned to Delhi by train. Will be coming back by the month end and will be driving Vellore - Salem via Harur, Uthangarai.. I hope the road stays intact till then.. This is the first time am seeing black surface in this stretch ever since 1986, when i began travelling in this road!!!..

Its pretty decent..
Harur has bypass for a very long time.
Thirupathur doesn't have one. Just now they have announced in this year budget.

Tirupathur - vaniyambadi is always in good condition as it connects Vaniyambadi with Dharmapuri..The monsoon is not effective till date and so the roads will stay intact..Only Harur has bypass..The road signs are good and also the directions by Highways department..

There is no proper road signs in Trichy-madurai NH 45b since it completed before three years and collecting the toll well. When compared to NH7 this road not up to the mark.

Why still old NH numbers are used... Rationalised NH numbers was released in Gazatte in April 2010 and it was expected to be in use in 2012.

Earlier in 2011, Vellore to Tiruvannamalai road strech which is part of NH 234(old) -- Mile stones in the section were painted with NH 38 (Vellore - Tuticorin). But after a month it was renumbered again to NH 234...

why can't we have the above expressway like,

Delhi Gurgaon Expressway
Delhi Noida Expressway
Noida - Greater Noida Expressway
GVK Jaipur Kishangarh Expressway
Durgapur Expressway
Mumbai-Pune Expressway

with Integrated Townships and various Infrastructure and Industrial parks along the Highway. Yamuna expressway has 5 Township planned along it's way......

Considering the cost, I hope they planned more flyovers and additional lanes at much needed places..

Heard that still Land acquistion(LA) is in progress, it is not fully four laned road (like trichy chennai trunk road) from vikravandi to meensuruti four laned road, from meensuruti to kumbakonam two laned road, kumbakonam(thaarasuram to thanjavur new 4 laned road via thiruvaiyuru) seems like it will take 5 years to complete.

Before that if they consider and make thanjavur-ariyalur-perambalur as four laned road then it will be a better connectivity to chennai and north bound districts. They should increase the bus frequency also through these route, so that thanjavur people might be aware of this route. I think as of now one bus is running via this route.

In the other end of these route rivers are running so its not possible and as of now widening is going in many routes as60% two laned and 40% four laned in this trichy-karur stretch, but they can widen this karur-covai route as four laned route but heard that 125 route stretch is also converted as two laned road(useless), for that they r going to collect toll.

RInfra rises on starting toll collections on Salem-Ulundurpet road
The company will collect toll on the road for 25 years, after which the road will
come under the ownership and maintenance of the NHAI

Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra) has moved higher by 4% at Rs 493 after the company said it has started collecting toll charges on Salem-Ulundurpet road in Tamil Nadu.

In a filing to the stock exchanges, RInfra said that the company, through its special purpose vehicle, SU Toll Road Pvt Ltd, has completed the Rs 1,061-crore, 136-km Salem-Ulundurpet road in Tamil Nadu. The company has commenced collecting toll charges on the road.

The project has been executed on the build, operate, transfer model. Reliance Infra will collect toll on the road for 25 years, after which the road will come under the ownership and maintenance of the National Highways Authority of India.

“A car will pay Rs 37 for a single journey and Rs 56 for multiple journeys. Similarly, an LCV will pay Rs 65 and Rs 97, a bus or a truck Rs 130 and Rs 195, a multi-axle vehicle Rs 209 and Rs 313, respectively. Of course, discounted monthly passes are available,” a release said.

The stock opened at Rs 478 and hit high of Rs 496 on the NSE. A combined 1.11 million shares have changed hands on the counter so far on both the exchanges.
