Not so soon. They have a regimented discipline in following
the patented pattern

1) float tender
2) approve the bidder who greases the most palms
3) divvy up the budget money
4) construct if money left

No, they have not invited to bid for the project yet. They have only invited application for pre-qualification of bidders and the results will be announced by November i think.

Lets assume if they float the tender in January, the PFI tendering process should take atleast 12 months or probably more and then another 3-4 months for validating of bids. We can expect the work to start sometime in 2010.

I guess it was proposed along with the Sriperumbudur dry port if i'm not wrong?!?

the elevated expy's only from Port to Maduravoyal, and not Sriperumbudur afaik...

here it is... Balu has asked to conduct feasibility study for tat...
Regarding construction of a Dry Port (Container Freight Station) at Sriperumbudur, the Minister directed the officials to get in touch with the State Government for allotment of 100 acres of land and also get the feasibility study done for construction of elevated corridor from Maduravoyal to proposed dry port in order to have a seamless movement of cargo.

Parsvnath Developers today announced a joint venture consortium with the Spanish infrastructure company Constructora San Jose.

The consortium has submitted a Request for Qualification to National Highways Authority of India and has qualified to submit a financial bid for construction of an elevated expressway in the National Highway 4, a press release said.

The contract is valued at Rs 1,220 crore and involves construction, engineering, designing, financing, procurement and operation of a 19 km long four-lane elevated expressway on National Highway 4 between Chennai Port and Maduravoyal in Tamil Nadu.

Not sure.. But Circular Corridors were proposed mainly for BRTS. Guess this must be different from that. Someone please clarify it!

Multi-crore infrastructure plan

CHENNAI: The landscape of Chennai is all set for a metamorphosis. When the Rs

32,700 crore plan for the metro is completed as scheduled in 10
years, the city's
skyline will be dotted with elevated highways , rapid transit ways for buses, truck terminals, mono-rail , a dozen more flyovers and several rail over/under bridges and multi-level car parks to accommodate the needs of an ever-growing populace.

The grand plan places a major thrust on transportation to attract 70% of the travelling public to public transport systems. It also looks at improving infrastructure facilities beyond the Chennai metropolitan area. With hectic industrial activity in suburban Chennai, the plan provides for construction of a super ring road around the city covering the industrial hubs of Tiruporur, Tiruvallur, Sriperumbudur and Singaperumal Koil, a senior official said.

"If the Rs 32,700 crore plan is implemented by various agencies like highways, Chennai corporation , the various municipalities and other departments, city suburbs will get a fillip in infrastructure building and the gap between outer Chennai and the core city will be reduced significantly," he noted.

Elevated corridors form a vital part of the project with an allocation of Rs 13,000 crore. Besides a Rs 2,300 crore project for cleaning and beautifying the city's water ways, the committee suggested taking up new projects including elevated highways from Light House to Kottivakkam, Vadapalani to Porur, Toll Gate to Tiruvottiyur, Parrys Corner to Toll Gate, Chennai Port to Maduravoyal, freight corridor from Ennore Port to Thatchur, Ennore Port to Chennai Port, elevated highways along Beach Road (Kamarajar Salai), Rajaji Salai, IT corridor, Arcot Road, Aminjikarai to Sterling Road and Kathipara to Tambaram.

Mono-rail project covering Guindy Halda junction, Adyar, Mylapore , Royapettah and Dams Road junction at Rs 480 crore and Kalangaraivilakkam MRTS station to Perambur via Anna Flyover and Kilpauk at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore will also be taken up soon.

The committee recommended widening of 200-km bus route roads and 100 km roads inside Chennai city at a cost of Rs 300 crore from two lanes to four or six lanes besides widening the Nesapakkam Road, Choolaimedu high road and Red Hills road.

The state level committee headed by former chief secretary L K Tripathy also recommended augmenting the fleet strength of Metropolitan Transport Corporation substantially. It has urged the government to add another 1,000 buses to its fleet in two years and wanted replacement of 1,000 old buses with new ones at a total cost of Rs 700 crore. The MTC has got 1,000 new buses only last year.

The plan envisages 26 new bus depots and eleven new bus terminals including those at Broadway, Anna Square, Thiruninravur, Sholinganallur, Vandalur, Mangadu , Saligramam and Tambaram east. It has also proposed an allocation of Rs 100 crore for renewal of existing depots and terminals.

It has also proposed a Rapid Bus Transit Ways (RBTW) - Pallavaram Thuraipakkam Road, Sardar Patel Road, NSK Salai, 20-km OMR, 5-km Taramani Road and Mount Road at a cost of Rs 500 crore as a medium term project. In the next phase, it proposes to take up Rs 1,170 crore RBTW for GST road, Chennai Bye Pass and outer ring road.
