Does anybody know if (and if so when) Qatar will be moving from Terminal 4 at Heathrow to Terminal 3 with it becoming Oneworld?

Nothing announced yet, but my guess is some time after 17th September 2014. This is when Singapore vacate Terminal 3 as Qatar need an A380 gate.

So, i guess the terminals in LHR will be classed as this:

T1: Skyteam
T2: Star Alliance
T3: Oneworld/Iberia/British Airways (Barcelona Flights)
T4: Non Aligned
T5: British Airways/Iberia (Madrid Flights)

I take it BA haven't been able to house all their flights in T5. Probably once the 3rd concourse is constructed sometime in the future BA will move all flights under the 1 roof?

Almost. Eventually skyteam will be at T4 with the non-aligned. Although there will be exceptions.

The plan is for T1 to be demolished in not the too distant future, with an expanded T2 taking its place.

With the local speculation about the sale of GLA, i think that future isn't too far away. I think we will see a 3rd runway and the demolition of T1 will be in the next 2 or 3 years.

There has been little said about T5D since BA bought bmi and obtained additional slots. In fact, it doesn't even show up on any of the renders for the proposed 3rd runway. What is shown, however, is the reconstruction of T3 in toast rack form. If and when this does happen, I believe that the transit system will be extended from T5 to T3A and T3B. This will then facilitate better airside transfers for OneWorld irrespective of whether BA have managed to move everything into T5.

That would make total sense in having some sort of transit system to transport Oneworld from T3 to T5, and would make LHR one hell of a BA/Oneworld hub in Europe.

Id love to be able to see more on how LHR is proposed to be redeveloped over the renders that are presently available. T2 is only a third of the way there with a T2A that has room for expansion and a T2B and T2C that isn't presently built.

If the new T3 was to get a T3B that may be big enough for Oneworld, and a link to T5 would be the icing.

All thats needed is a T1 for Skyteam and T4 to be given over to Non-Aligned as it is, and with in my opinion the 3rd runway and if i was to be totally honest the present runways were extended to 17000ft to operate on a Dual Mode and the 3rd runway was used for strictly the heavies, it would be effectively be 5 runways and open up LHR for some serious expansion and some serious growth. Thats my opinion, however wouldn't make many people happy, but with some noise management and alternating the stacks would be by solution.

However it is developed and expanded, its going to be interesting.

In relation to the link from T2 to the concourse I take it this will eventually be pulled down to make way for further expansion.

Yes it will, indeed, be pulled down. It is only there to link T1 with T2B. Its existence restricts access to a number of new T2 gates, without which they will struggle to accommodate airlines like LH and SK in T2.

UK Airports Commission scraps "Boris Island"...

'Boris Island' fails for being 'too risky and expensive'

A proposal for a Thames estuary hub airport has “substantial disadvantages” that collectively outweigh its potential benefits, the Airports Commission ruled today.

I was reading an article in the NY Times about how Boris was trying to position himself to become the next PM of the UK. If that happens, will Boris Island come back to life?

Yes, he is certainly positioning himself to become the next leader of the Conservative Party. On that basis, a future PM, maybe but not the next PM. As time goes by, one would hope that the whole Boris Island proposal moves down his list of political priorities. But, with Boris, you never quite know!

I'm somewhat confused with T4. It's become a mixed bag & I take it this until T2 extension is completed?
Observing the photo above you have, Sky, Star & OW carriers operating from T4 which I find unusual considering BA operate from T5.

Qatar and Malaysian are relatively recent members of OneWorld, they should be moving over to T3 in due course. Other than that, T4 will stay a 'mixed bag' comprising SkyTeam and miscellaneous non aligned airlines.

By the way, which Star Alliance airline can you see in the picture?
