Cheers, thanks for clarifying...
Just clicked to me, Aeromexico is Sky not Star! My bad...

It's the DL/VS joint venture which makes things messy. VS have invested heavily in T3 and will be reluctant to move out, even if, eventually, they join Skyteam. So, DL have begun to move their operations into T3, leaving their Skyteam stablemates in T4.

From what I understand (and do correct me if I'm mistaken), Heathrow's grand plan is that T5 would remain the base of the IAG, T2 would be for Star Alliance, T3 for OneWorld (with the exception of DL and VS) and T4 for SkyTeam and non-aligned carriers.

What does the future hold for T1, and will T3 see a T2-esque redevelopment in the future?

Will Etihad do a bacon sandwich for that price? I didn't think so.

tullamarine I don't think Etihad (or Emirates for that matter) will do a bacon sandwich at any price!!! Qantas customers on Sydney/Melbourne-London lost bacon from the breakfast menu following the Emirates alliance.

T1 is to be demolished for an expanded T2 (next phase).

All correct, though I think we need to add EK to the list of non OneWorld airlines staying in T3.

T3 will resemble the T2/T5 toast rack arrangement eventually, though timing for this and T5D is far from clear. LHR seems to have been holding back on announcing any new major projects whilst the Airports Commission has been deliberating.

Understandable that they won't announce any building projects as the Airports Commission report and recommendation will probably either stay stillborn or will be done if the report is in favour of LHR.

Personally, id like to see T5D and a new T1 and T1B with T1 being the One World carriers linking into T5 for One World transfers via the toast rack system. That will be the engine room of the airport with probably 50m passengers a year for T1 & T5 once completed. The other 3 terminals doing about 25m passengers a year, LHR may be able to do 125m to 130m a year if they get a third runway.

If they do get the third runaway, and an extension to the two existing runways so that the new runway can take the heavy/super heavies and with the two and the two existing take the medium weight aircraft that don't need a full almost 12,000ft to stop. Id extend the length of 09L/27R and 09R/27L eventually to 17,000ft and have them operate in 'dual mode' where one end is for take off and the other for landing. Give them 7,500ft to land and have a 2,000ft safety zone in the middle. That way sou could run the A320 Series, A330s, B737s, B757s. The new runway would service the A380, A340, B777, B747 and B767s. With that running at 12,000ft.

Id recon, that all in all, there will be another £12billion spent on LHR if all if in favour of a LHR expansion. LHR has all the ingredients to be the busiest airport in the world. If things are managed correctly with air traffic management and the stacks being put in the correct areas, with the stacks even being displaced 10km further out to where they are at present.

There are a lot of people to please, and there will be a lot of people that will be equally as unhappy. However, i think it can be managed correctly, if the correct measures are in place to keep the situation under control.

Id also give Gatwick its second runway as well, also bringing in the Heathrow-Gatwick rail link as well. All measures will control and also give the UK economy the best boost. A combined passenger number of up to possibly 200m people a year. A scary figure.

Management of the situation is key, and this is where the main answers will need to come from to overcome most objections.
