Except for La Defense and London, most skylines look like they were thrown in there just for the sake of it.. Especially Rotterdam and Warsaw. No density.

The pictures of the City, St Pauls across the Themes are so stunning that I nearly cried!!

My main gripe with this thread is that people are considering London's skyline to be only canary wharf! What about the beautiful spires and the dome of St Pauls as seen in these pictures? Why has only one person posted these amazing pictures! If I could wrk out how to use my Apple Mac I'd do it myself! Just look at those images and how can Frankfurt compare?

For me it is only London and Paris in this race. Liverpools setting is breathtaking and Frankfurts height is amazing but overall beauty I cant see past London (all of it not just CW) and Paris (all of it not just LD)

Compared to this,

it does. It doesn't score high on quantity, but the skyline doesn't look totally random like certain other cities..

Those are just a few skinny commieblocks.. Not that they don't look nice, but compared to London's "real" skyscrapers they look a bit like cardboard boxes..

You've just posted a image of the City of London and the rest of Central in which it could scarcely look more dense!! And its so out of date that the Swiss RE is not even on it! same goes for your Canary Wharf shot, out of date!

Actually, Scotland has nothing to do with England that's the reason why you cannot consider it as a part of your nation.... the same about north Ireland.

I don't say you're wrong, I just say it's a difference made by foreigners.

In most of the world, a church spire or dome isn't really substantial enough to form part of a skyline. That you are taking into account such buildings would suggest that London's skyline hasn't yet reached the height and scale where it should be considered at all. London is rapidly developing a skyline, but even 20 years ago, most people in North America wouldn't have said that London had any skyline to speak of.

London is beautiful, but this is about skylines, not how many gorgeous church spires a city has. The best in the EU: Frankfurt, Warsaw, Rotterdam, then Paris. London will join this pack soon, but isn't there yet. A few 150+ metre towers does not make a skyline. It all depends on what you are used to. To Europeans, London has a big skyline, but to a Canadian, it doesn't. Conversely, Torontonians think we have a busy airport, but to a Londoner, we don't.

it may be easy to say, who is the best today, but all of the main skylines in europe are going to change dramatically over the next couple of years. it's hard to predict who is going to be the best in the future.

To call new residential towers in Rotterdam (among them one luxury appartment complex) "skinny commieblocks" you must be kidding. Obviously you haven't been to this city.

And btw what is the skyline of CW if not just a few boxy highrises? Seriously, CW skyline is the most boxy and dull skyline in EU.
