Indeed it is a shame, but surely there has been a thread like this before which -no doubt- Frankfurt won? There will always be London forumers voting for London when it clearly doesn't have the best skyline, the same goes for Birmingham, Liverpool and everywhere else. The reason Liverpool is ahead at the moment is because a link to the thread was posted in the sub-forum so more people have seen it. Other cities will no doubt catch up and Frankfurt will ofcourse end up the winner.

My top is the same as no1gizmo's top 3.

Frankfurt > Paris > Liverpool.

It would have been interesting to see the results of a fair poll. My top 8 from those listed...

1.Warsaw
2.Frankfurt
3.London
4.Paris
5.Liverpool
6.Rotterdam
7.Birmingham
8.Essen
But it's a moot point as to what "best skyline" means isn't it?

Contrary to what some here may believe "The Best Skyline" mayor may not, include any 20/21C skyscrapers at all.

Many of my best skylines don't.

To me, "best skyline" is a combination of most distinctive, most dramatic, prettiest, best composed, of interest/of contrasts, best setting and so on, so on the basis of there could most definitely be a case for Liverpool. (notwithstanding the partisan voting which you correctly identify)

Knowing the place, I can understanding how people might value the unique setting of Liverpool's distictive skyline over any other- I personally don't- but biased votes or not, it's a perfectly valid and not entirely ridiculous proposition.

I think next to Paris, Liverpool's is possibly the most distinctive.

A lot of other skylines around the world, and some here, are little more a selection of modern skyscrapers, and, as we know, outside of the NYC classics, skyscapers anywhere do tend to all look roughly the same and start to make their cities do likewise.

^Well, I dont see what Liverpool has that is so distinctive. Warsaw has the Palac Kultury and Frankfurt has Commerzbank among other towers. Those are the top two I think, by a fair margin.

I'm loving Liverpool. Paris is by far the most outstanding and Madrid is getting there real fast. I spent a Summer in Essen. What a surprise to see how that skyline has blossomed.

Liverpool reminds me of what Shanghai used to look like for some reason.

I think Benidorm in Spain has definitely the best skyline in Europe. Frankfurt and Paris take the second and third places.

Benidorm:

Liverpool reminds me of what Shanghai used to look like for some reason.

There used to be a massive link there between the two cities. Shanghai's waterfront Customs House is very similar to the Royal Liver Building, which predates it by some 20 years, and the building next to it looks remarkably similar to the Port of Liverpool building.

For me it's Liverpool as it has a waterfront with a large expanse of water, with a great mixtures of building styles stretching over 100 years. Within the next few years the skyline will change even more.

I have been to Frankfurt a few times and the skyline is not apparent, although some nice individual buildings. You have to be way from the centre for any impact. In Liverpool you take a ferry ride in the river and the skyline emerges in all its glory - looking at the front door of the city. When the cruise liners are moored Liverpool has a real class skyline. 250,000 ton tankers also sail past the city centre, once gain these large ships add value to the skyline.

id go with paris > frankfurt > london

I'm not too fond of benidorm, the skyline looks pretty good when you're approaching it in a car, but you get more and more disapointed the closer you get, as individually nearly all of the buildings are pretty cheap & nasty looking.

Oh dear. People have been fooled by Liverpool! I've looked at that view for the last god knows how many years. Its got to be the most tedius vantage point on these forums. ANywhere else and the skyline is non existant unless you view it from a hill. I qualify skylines on its views 360 degrees. Not 180. And because of that Liverpool would'nt even make it into my top 5 let alone number 1. Manchester and Birmingham are significantly better and London trounces all 3 off them within the UK alone. Rotterdam is 20 times better then all the UK provincial cities and Warsaw shits all over us. Dont even get me started on Paris and Frankfurt.

Embarassing.

your constant whinging and moaning is embarrasing, and by far the most tedious thing on these forums.
