Very sad...

A construction worker on a downtown site lost his life yesterday when a falling sheet of metal sliced through his hard hat.

Police say the 55-year-old victim was on the third floor of one of the two towers being built at the Murano Condominiums project site at Bay and Grosvenor Sts., north of College St., at about 3:30 p.m. when he was struck by the piece of metal debris.

Emergency crews rushed him to St. Michael's Hospital where he was pronounced dead, said EMS duty officer Dave Vilijak.

Lowest, evidently, still left room for improvement.

It's a very dangerous job and I've always had enormous respect for the people working in this field.

Sad about the death at the Murano site. I hope it's that last one for a very long time.

Accidents WILL happen. You'll never eliminate them completely.

So you're saying you wouldn't mind another down the road?

More like, since an accident is inevitable, if it is going to happen, hopefully it won't be until a very long time.

I've only been on one job site where there's been a death, and i hope it was the last.
