The ground floor structures that look like a gallery could be a coffee shop or some hang out area for waiting passengers because of nice view of the Dumaguete bouilevard. I am excited for this portion to be revealed and for the fences to be removed.

On the other hand, I noticed that huge SuperFerry ship docking in the Dumaguete port for the past several days. Could be engine malfunctioning and undergoing repairs, or sheltering from typhoon?

This nice building is now opened

The port terminal's fences facing the Boulevard has been removed too. It look so gorgeous!

There's a news today that SF5 rammed into Dumaguete pier, the reason it was here for five days. Finally it disappeared today. But Pier 1 of Dumaguete port sustained quite a large damage, and SF5 had a hole too, although small.

Superferry 5 rams Pier Uno (www.negroschronicle.com)

The Dumaguete City Port number 1 sustained a huge damage after it was bumped by Superferry 5 owned by Aboitiz last Wednesday night.

The ship Superferry 5 was from Manila and was supposed to dock at Port No.1 when the ship lost control and failed to make an immediate full astern causing it to bump into the front area of the port. Good thing that the bow thruster of the ship located at its side did not malfunction and maneuvered the ship to recover from the collision.

The front part of the port collapsed with five of its posts destroyed. The ship’s front was dented and a whole was created.

According to Port Services Division ManagerRaul Merecido, the port experienced greater damage if compared to the ship. However, Superferry five was already suspended from shipping back in Manila. Merecido said a survey will be conducted at the port to determine the extent of the damages.
He further revealed that Aboitiz is obliged to handle all the finances of restoring the port.

Flu downs students at SU: report
BY ALEX PAL
Monday, July 13, 2009

Dr. Walden Ursos, university physician of Silliman University in Dumaguete City, said the onset of the flu season has stopped doctors from actively screening for the A(H1N1) virus and patients exhibiting light flu symptoms are now just being asked to stay home.

"The symptoms tend to disappear after three days," Ursos said.

Flu cases affecting over 100 Silliman University students were reported this past week, although Jose Mari Jonathan Antonio, convenor of the SU Crisis Prevention Response Team, said he is still trying to ascertain their exact number.

The university had increased its flu monitoring from passive to active triage, with the screening of students in the elementary and high school levels at the gates.

Students, as well as faculty and staff members, had to have their temperature taken by nurses with infrared thermometers.

"Those who had slight fever, flu and cough were advised to go home," Antonio said, but added that others were advised to seek medical attention.

So far, SU has remained free of the swine flu virus. Dumaguete has had one recorded victim of the A(H1N1) virus but the victim, a female who had returned from HongKong, has already recovered.

Antonio said the active triage instituted at the university will continue until necessary so that the cycle will end.

In the provincial level, the Department of Health is awaiting results for 10 patients, whose swab samples have been sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Manila for testing.

Dr. Socrates Villamor, head of the DOH in Negros Oriental, said there were reports that 36 students at the Tampi National High School had gotten sick with fever from July 3. However, when the DOH team visited the school last Wednesday, almost everyone had already recovered.

"We were able to get a swab sample from only one student and even that student had already recovered," Villamor said.*AP

DENR– Dgte needs more personnel
First Posted 11:18:00 07/13/2009

SOME 30 more Bantay Gubat and Bantay Dagat personnel will be hired by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

Community Environment and Natural Resources Office II head Charlie Fabre emphasized the need for more extension workers to help them in their campaign to combat climate change.

Twenty workers will be deployed as forest guards or Bantay Gubat and sea wardens or Bantay Dagat.

The remaining ten will be assigned in the information, education and communication campaigns to be carried out in the barangay and municipal levels.

Local residents will be given priority in the hiring.

Fabre said that Environment Secretary Lito Atienza is still waiting for funding from Malacañang before hiring additional workers.
