You're probably right. Football isn't huge like it is in many other places in Canada/US. There are likely 100 cities and towns that can draw more than Vancouver for football.

Fantastic European design but the seating pattern/color is chronic. Also not a fan of the gap between the roof and the back row of seats. Two levels of corporate boxes there wouldn't have gone a miss.Where are the premium level seats/boxes in this stadium by the way?

However, the large steel rim beneath the roof was created to enhance the noise. Not sure what is below the steel rim, I hope it is corporate boxes? ![]() ...and the squares above look spectacular when lighted at night. |

The Ring around the bottom of the roof is for accoustics but also hold tension cable that are part of the roof system and prevent the masts from twisting under load from snow, etc Hope that answers your question. I think it will look better overall for Soccer when the entire lower bowl is full and they close the gaps between the tarps for the upper section |

Not a fan of that soccer configuration tarp. It looks terrible. The football configuration looks great! This is really the only top notch football stadium in the country. The new Bomber Stadium under construction in Winnipeg will join BC Place once finished, but the rest aren't very good.
Bury the athletics track at Commonwealth in Edmonton and we'd have 3 great football stadiums.

I think the tarps are a solid way to create a nice soccer environment. It might not be the best way to do it but it's better than having an ugly empty upper deck.

I think the Romans used them in the Colosseum, so they can't be that bad.

the renovation looks amazing though for some reason the video board really bothers me. why not have 4 screens all the same size? the two small ones just look silly.

Amazing
I was on a trip around Europe and saw almost exactly the same stadium with the same roof in Warsaw, Poland.
The stadium in Poland holds over 50 000 spectators for football (I mean real football) I understand the new stadium in Vancouver can only accomodate about 25 000 people for football. I wonder why ? If Real Madrid or Manchester United come to Vancouver they could sell 50 000 tickets |

Canadians developed their own sports that have dominated the national sports scene for over a century. People criticize us for not having our own culture, but clearly we do. If we didn't, we'd be just another soccer loving nation like the rest of the planet. ![]() Why does it irk foreigners so much that we their sports don't dominate our culture? Surely, our cultural uniqueness is a cause for celebration in a world of globalization and cultural sameness. I have nothing against soccer, but our domestic sports (hockey, football, baseball, basketball, and lacrosse) are a source of national pride, not something to be pushed to the curb. You Finns have your own language and pesäpallo. These things make Finland different than the rest of the world; likewise we have things that make us Canadian.
