There were actually some renovations done prior to the Olympics, just not the big one with the new roof.

Yup. Not enough time, and the costs probably would have ended up even more. I'm not at all disappointed that they waited.

The COC had no intention of doing a major renovation to BC Place for the Olympics. A roof collapse made it obvious that a major renovation was, in fact, needed. The timing of the collapse made such a renovation impossible so it was under taken afterwards.

Tonight at 7 p.m. on Discovery Channel the world will get a look at the massive undertaking to rebuild BC Place stadium. Still a shame the half billion dollar project was not done in time for the 2010 Olympics. The program repeats again 11pm tonight.

Gotta say BC Place livens up the Vancouver skyline, the renovated one, much like Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Multi Purpose
I think BC Place works so well as a Multi Purpose facility now, worked great for the Paul McCartney show last night complete with Union Jack lighting on the roof. Over 40,000 were there last night

baseball in B.C. Place
On August 12, 1983 a Pacific Coast League record crowd of 41,875 attended a Vancouver Canadian game, following an Old Timers exihibition game.

BC Place Stadium, in March 2013, has been confirmed as the host venue of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup Final.

Because its an old stadium renovated. They had to work with an existing structure. Those seats were there before the renovation.

The biggest issue was going from a fixed Air Supported Dome to a Retractable roof, they needed to have a compression ring inside the stadium to hold the outside roof masts stable, therefore they unfortunately ended up with these seats. I am told they are sold pretty cheap as an "obs view" seat. Overall BC Place has very few events where all 54,500 seats are sold
I will be intersesting how many tickets are sold for the Canucks vs Senators game rumored to be here March 2, 2014 ??? |
