What is with all the fires in dubai? There's another HUGE one right now in the al quoz area, same place as the one where there was the explosion! What is going on?

Well, in the UK, when I needed some money to go out with my mates, we used to burn one of my warehouses down and then claim the insurance money.

Not sure if that sort of thing goes on in Dubai. But it should. You can make shit loads of money by doing this. And the authorities never find out.

He insured the building not the merchandise, plus he only did that after selling everything off and when market price was low.

Basically what he's saying is BS: He didn't need the money to go out wiuth his mates, rather to cover the losses of the last shipment and having some left for the down-payment on the next one already on the way.

An officer told Sheikh Mohammed that they will not be able to handle big fires and that something needs to be done immediately..

that is not very smart. They should have thought about that before they started to build skyscrapers like hell. But i think it will be alright in the end.

What does the civil defense department need? More fire engines, more stations, more trained staff, more cranes, more safety training and techniques, more air operation capabilities, more public safety campaigns, stricter building regulations, e.g. compulsary sprinkler systems in every commerical building (I heard some are not even connected to water!), more international experts advising on standards, oh and yeah... not giving a blow torch to Naresh Mulinatarayan from Kochin, an unskilled worker who arrived last thursday for a new career in construction.

a large number of these fires are obviously caused by negligence.
what percentage of these fires result in criminal charges against those who improperly supervise the sites?
