The big difference to me is that 106 looks like it was designed in one piece, while 101 is cut into four different segments plus crown. It bugs the hell out of me when I look at the latter, especially with the colour scheme of the segments clashing quite badly (worst being the gray part).

23 Marina has a similar problem with its extreme segmentation, but at least the segments there don't look so dull and depressing. Still one of the worst designs in the area.

Unfortunately great designs do not always succeed at taking attention away from awful ones. I think Rose Hotel (no idea what it's current name is) is an amazing design, but ever since they put that hideous Al Attar tower next to it, and don't tell it will look better when cleaned, it won't, I just can't appreciate the former anymore because I always see that thing next to it.

23 and 101 are among my favorites in the marina skyline.

The segmentation reflect the structure and internal layout differentiations (they're residential buildings afterall), but yeah it could have been handled better.

Hopefully they will be able to get a lot more built before the low price of oil slows things down again! A drop from $100 to $46 in less than 6 months has already caused problems in oil-exporting countries, although luckily it is less felt here because they diversified their economy knowing they would run out of oil.

How many years, decades have to pass until people will realize that Dubai is not depending on oil anymore?
All the big developers like Emaar, Damac and others are in the real estate sector, and that's where they generate their money. Watch this market if you are concerned about Dubai's growth in the future...

I don't want to explain this anymore.

Nothing is as bad as Al Seef tower, although diminutive at 50 stories.

Oil as a direct industry may make-up only a low, single-digit percentage of Dubai's economy, but many investors in Dubai property probably derive a large extent of their income from oil--Saudi's, Abu Dhabi investors, Iranians, Russians, etc. So, no doubt, a major oil price downturn will have a pretty strong impact on the property market.

I would guess, if there were a way to quantify the make-up of an economy down to various sub-levels, then oil would probably figure in as a much higher factor than it appears to be. In reality Dubai's economy may be (my guess) 20 to 30% dependent on oil.

And this pic is taken a week ago. Looks like it reached ground level. (It is the little edge of the construction site you can see at the bottom right of the picture )

Original design was really good too but i like this alot will look really tall witout a thin crown. and putting a bigger pool that high is quite spectacular.

and if they stick close to the renders the cladding might be a couple of levels over its siblings around.
