Here's some updates from yesterday:

I think it seems slow comparred to other projects as they're only working day shifts - plus they're working simultaneously on the basement which needs waterproofing etc and takes about a month per floor. Also the lower floor layouts were all different so the formwork was awkward but now they've reached the 9th floor the layouts should be consistent. I'm sure it will speed up by the end of the year and I think they said 2018 completion.

Slaves! Well they can leave and go back home whenever they want ... Dubai is offering them better lifestyle than their own country and they chose it so why don't you back off and do some research before you throw cr*p like that online which only makes you look stupid.

joke when it's sad ...

you'r in the good way ! no mistake ...

Vous insultez l'architecture juste parce que vous n'aimez pas le système politique de Dubai?! Quoi qu'il en soit ce forum concerne la construction et le développement urbains non pas la politique.

Ah it is been forever since I practiced my french ... thank you

For my opinion, urban development and politics are interdependent , the idea of the city ... it's living together in the Agora , this sounds like the policy .It probably a bit more than build shopping centers, hight rises in Dubai ...

Au fait ! j'ai insulté personne , en tous les cas en aucun cas l'architecte , vous avez pris cela où ?
Fin du HS
Merci .

Bruh this is so incredibly wrong it's hilarious how off base it really is. Most of you guys love to circlejerk around a big tower while ignoring the politics behind it (which, ok, it's an architecture blog so I get it) but it's pretty damn ignorant to say urban developments like these just happen on their own without any political involvement.

I would point out how that's not really a defense, nor is anything else spoken here a halfway decent counterargument, but I've been banned by you before for disagreeing, so please just take this as an observation.

It's understandable coming from the people here, that you guys would rather focus on the superficiality of the projects here, because, simply put, they're pretty damn impressive monuments to human ingenuity.

I think it's a shame that so many of you choose to remain ignorant on the "behind-the-scenes" issues that plague the societies these magnificent towers go up in. Ignoring them won't make them go away.

Grande Gabriel française . Moi aussi, je suis d'accord avec vous . Ceci est un développement forum urbain pas un forum des droits political.
^ I too needed some practice with my French.
P.S I don't know French just used Google translate.
Can we keep this Forum English Please.

I don't really care, but you actually did for something I said that was stupid and pretty minor tbh but is oh so ironic.

But I'm not surprised with your response. Just a heads up though, most Americans outside of the ones shined through various media outlets don't trade phones in every year. A lot, sure, but some of us are still rocking the iPhone 5.

All that to be said, you're still focusing on the subsurface level of these (admittedly beautiful) towers while plugging your ears and yelling "a la la la la la can't hear you" to anything that resembles negativity.

Just curious, if the thread title says this building will have 104 floors, is there a reason why they are sticking with the name 106? I have always been under the impression the building was named after the number of floors, is that incorrect?

How far away is your airport from Dubai ? I read many cities around the world including my own, Melbourne have skyscrapers and the few Supertalls cropped to near 300m or below because an airport is 11km. away...is this an International situation or just locals who hate height and shadows ?
PS...Our tallest about to start is called AUS108...it was cropped back to 100 levels but they kept the previous name, wonder if the number 8 has a lucky meaning ? Just saying from reading previous post...hope all's well in Lexington ; ) Spent a month there back in August 2007...nice...
