Do they come in smaller sizes? I'd buy one for Bucharest... the wheels and suspension are perfect for the wonderful infrastructure of my city.

Crappy A-stan! One Romanian soldier was killed today and three others injured after their APCs were attacked. This amounts to 7 soldiers lost in Afganistan.

Oh my God! May he rest in peace...

I guess this news has an outrageous effect in Romania. I hope your government will now reconsider the military mission in A-stan. Seven soldier lost there. It must be long enough to withdraw from a foreign land... BTW, how many Romanian soldiers are serving there?

570 personnel as of June 2008, consisting of a battalion in Qalat. Additionally, a special forces squad (39 personnel) operates from an unknown location, and a training detachment of 47 personnel is in Kabul under the US-led Operation Enduring Freedom.
Wikipedia

So in total... some 650-660 personnel, of which at least 570 under Regional Command South.

Don't want to talk about the Romanian army on your thread, but pulling the troops out might be good for their health, might be good for PR, but I don't know how good it would be from the military point of view. I'd rather see them stay and have more modern and quality equipment sent to them so they can be better protected. I don't know if they've shipped those Piranha APCs to them.

How many soldiers did Hungary lost?

We've got "only" 250 soldiers serving in Afghanistan plus 9 bomb specialists. This was the first Hungarian victim in Afghanistan, the one killed in a bomb-attack was member of the Iraq mission.

Mi a Gripennel a 4,5 generációnál tartunk.

2008. június 20-án 11.42 órakor a Magyar Honvédség 59. Szentgyörgyi Dezső Repülőbázis állományába tartozó kétüléses L-39 típusú vadászrepülőgép kiképzési repülés végrehajtása közben Fehérgyarmat közelében balesetet szenvedett.
A repülőgép kétfős személyzete életét vesztette.

Havril András vezérezredes, a Honvédelmi Minisztérium Honvéd Vezérkar főnöke és Tömböl László altábornagy, a Magyar Honvédség Összhaderőnemi Parancsnokságának parancsnoka elindult a helyszínre.

Budapest, 2008. június 20-án

Lezuhant egy katonai gép Fehérgyarmaton

2008. június 20. 13:00
Meghalt mindkét pilóta azon az L39-es típusú Albatros kiképzőgépen, amely eddig tisztázatlan körülmények között zuhant le Fehérgyarmat külterületén péntek dél körül - közölte Bocskai István. A Honvédelmi Minisztérium szóvivője elmondta: a pilóták kiképzőrepülést hajtottak végre a szlovák gyártmányú repülőgéppel, amikor lezuhantak. A helyszínre mentőhelikopter is indult.

Felfegyverzett harci változatát is gyártották.

A Magyar Légierő 1993-ban kapott az egykori keletnémet légierő hagyatékából 20 L39-ZO repülőgépet, ebből 12 gép állt Kecskeméten szolgálatba, a maradék nyolcat tartalék alkatrésznek szánták.

L39-es gép legutóbb 1995. július 25-én, Abony közelében zuhant le, a pilóták akkor sikeresen katapultáltak. Két hónappal ezelőtt, április 17-én leszállás közben lezuhant egy MiG 29-es vadászrepülőgép a kecskeméti repülőtéren. A pilóta katapultált.

Do they have a clue what happened and why didn't the pilots manage to eject? Anyway, RIP for the pilots.

In the news they said the pilot made an error(changed flight plan?)...Some said the back seat catapulted, but the front couldnt, because of the delay between the 2.

They also said the pilot made efforts to evade crashing into the city...if I understand right,he sacrificed himself...

I dont think he sacrificed himself, that would be insane... I think he made a mistake, tried to correct it, and he measured his options wrong...

Lack of training time...

I mean the instructor...the launching sequence was initiated late, maybe because of the instructor tried to avoid the city. Then, the student died because of the delayed launch(intentional delay between the 2 seats),and instructor because of the insufficient height. Though it is possible that the source of the problem was his fault, but they could have ejected in that moment, leaving the aircraft uncontrolled above the city...
