Why does it surprise you that some people actually prefer a city that experiences all four distinct seasons, with dry heat in summer instead of wet/dry seasons with lots of humidity?

Winter is great in Melbourne, if it's cold you can wear clothes to warm up, simple as that!

I personally hate hot days, especially combined with humidity.

ha! u think melbourne's climate is really that bad? its bad for ozzy standards but there are a lot of great world cities with a worse climate than melbs.

now days it hardly even rains in winter (hence the guys comment) & its usually not so cold that you can really feel it in your bones (very rarely does it get that cold). go to hobart and then you'll start to feel cold!

& you only have to watch the oz open to know that our summers have lovely hot weather practically everyday.

& at other times of year. can you remember when there was a terrible weather day on a grand final, a melbourne cup, a grand prix etc...i certainly can't

lol mate you got absolutely no idea do you?
on average melbourne's weather is maybe 1-2 degrees colder than sydney's
try travelling to somewhere like england ireland or many north american cities and realise that many of days we call winter here in melbourne is what they call a balmy summers day...okay maybe its not that extreme but often its close to

everything that you mentioned in completely debatable if not completely false. the fact that you had to hark back to 2006 for the melb cup for a specific example is testimony to this.

yes melbourne's weather is often quite dreary but do some travelling and you'll realise that stacks of cities have climates that are leaps and bounds worse than melbourne's (that is if you consider melbourne's temperate climate a bad thing to start with...i like it coz u can wear layers and enjoy distinctive seasons

anyway this discussion detracts from what a great thread this is!

Best wishes with your new endeavours. As far as Melbourne goes I don't think you could have contributed more. You seemed to have captured every aspect of the city and its character so eloquently in those many pic posts, and I can't think of an occasion when any city, anywhere, has been showcased better.
