I can't believe that architects have the nerve to design something this atrocious, and the audacity of the developers to actually construct a tower like this in the same city with masterpieces like the Chrysler Building, The Woolworth Building, and St. Patrick's Cathedral.

Take it easy. It is just a residential building, not aiming to make an architecture statement or anything. New York has hundreds of buildings uglier than this. The Chrysler building and Woolworth are whatever but nobody is building those kind of buildings any more because they don't make economical sense especially for a residential tower, and not every building has been or will be like them in any city, including New York. I bet the cost of this building is lower than the fancy ones and it is glassy so it is easier to be kept clean than the old ones. Besides its regular shape and cladding will age better than some of the tacky buildings. If you don't have a fortune to spend, it is better to play safe. Don't be so hard on it.

Mmm, I don't like this tower, seems for me like another glass box raising up.

Maybe, but what hurts in this case is that in the renders it looked nice, but they used bad materials. The glass looks 80's style... (poor 80's style!)

What is actually the building in the foreground of this tower. I can see it on the pictures johnflint1985 posted.

It's looking good. Not a big fan of the cladding though.
