by Eliza Barclay, Nomad on 06. 3.08 Design & Architecture June 4, 2008 3:16 AM BBVA Bancomer To Build Green Corporate Offices in Mexico City Once again Mexico's banking sector is demonstrating surprising initiative in the realm of green building. It's still not clear to us why it has become especially trendy for the big national and foreign banks to commit to building green, but we're impressed by it nonetheless. Perhaps inspired by competitor HSBC's LEED certified building, the Spanish banking giant BBVA Bancomer recently broke ground on new regional corporate offices in Mexico City, which the Spanish company claims will be ecologically friendly and sustainable. According to the bank, the new offices will use 30% less water and electricity that the current offices, which will be achieved through more energy-efficient air conditioning, electrical and water systems in the buildings. The new, green facilities are expected to be completed in 2013. According to Cronica newspaper, Banorte also recently announced its plans to build offices using the U.S. LEED standard. (Mexico's Green Building Council is still working on developing a sustainable building rating tool similar to LEED in the United States.) :: Via Expansion, New Ventures Mexico http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008...a_building.php |

Last edited by Doggo; June 4th, 2008 at 11:16 PM. |

Last edited by Doggo; June 5th, 2008 at 12:06 AM. |

Aqui pongo la parte del articulo que menciona brevemente a la Torre Bancomer: Reforma Avenue, considered to be one of Mexico’s most beautiful streets, went through some tough times in the 1980s, 1990s and the beginning of this decade. Many of the buildings along the street had been abandoned or were not in used, especially some of the smaller structures. But in the past six years, Reforma Avenue and the neighboring city’s Historic District have gone through a major revitalization that included new street lighting, pavement and sidewalk repairs, landscaping work, new signs and a bigger police presence. As part of the beautification of the area, the local government has also been enticing the private sector to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in new construction developments along Reforma Avenue, and since 2002, projects such as Torre Mayor, St. Regis Hotel, Torre HSBC and the Reforma 222 mixed-use development have been the result of these efforts. All of these projects have been completed. Currently there are several projects under construction along the Reforma's business corridor and many other schemes have been proposed or are in the works – one of them is the BBVA-Bancomer’s new headquarters, Mexico’s second biggest bank. If built, Torre Bancomer, would rise 912 feet (278 meters) above ground becoming Mexico City’s tallest. The Bancomer building would be located directly across the street from Torre Mayor and Torre Reforma and only a few steps away from St. Regis Hotel.
