Should the UK pull out of Eurovision?

Time for the BBC to stop paying for this farce. Leave it to the Balkanites and the USSR. Yesh?

Bloc voting FTW.

Yes pull out.

EDIT: Am I a UK member as an overseas citizen?

But if we pulled out then we'd have no reason to watch it. I was thinking about this last night and also about the Beatles' White Album (don't ask why, the explanation's too long) and it struck me that, as we're guaranteed to come last every year, we should make an effort every year to enter something guaranteed to get nul points. Something in the style of Revolution No9 might be a good start for next year's entry and then maybe we could move into Frank Zappa territory.

No, stay in the ESC, just get out of the infinitely more corrupt EU (there we go P:!)

Its all just bollocks, so don't worry about it, it is not like it involves 'weighty matters of governence' is it?

The BBC should start a 'Western Europe' Eurovision and leave the commies to it.

Yes. Failing that, we should stop paying for it and just compete in the heats, only to be knocked out. After a few years of that, even the most diehard supporters will become disillusioned. Good night Belgrade, good night Moscow.

Then the Scandinavians start arsing about with the bloc voting. They're the ones who started it.

or we could take the piss, like the Irish did, both in the entrant they elected to send, and in the acts that they voted for on the night!

Maybe we should stop paying, but not pull out.

I personally just wanna see the UK put some real music into it.

Some cutting edge metal or electronic or whatever.

Or maybe take the piss by putting an orchestra in.

Fuck the pop stuff, make it a cultural showpiece.

Its not like we are gonna win anyway.

Surely the benefits of Eurovision membership far outweigh the embarrassment of having to perform in a ridiculous kitschfest every year? The BBC would have to negotiate a lot of rights separately and probably pay more for European newsgathering, sports events etc. etc.

Pulling out of Eurovision isn't the same as pulling out of the EBU though?

Well Spain, France and Germany do the opposite and put out the worst song possible because they know they won't win, and they still do better than us. Licence payers are funding a big party in Eastern Europe every year.

Suppose it's an option to split up the UK into the 4 home nations, but I doubt it would make much difference. What about giving more votes to countries with bigger populations? Actually if countries like San Marino and Monaco can enter then so should Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man etc.

It would never be allowed as the BBC would not be trusted to run the voting in all four areas without fixing it.

Pretty much - Eurovision is the operational side of the EBU, so there wouldn't be much point in remaining an "honorary" EBU member only.

Considering that the Brits pretty much mapped Europe, I think we should decide who should participate and shouldn't in Eurovision!

We should have a Germanic vision song contest instead.
