Skyline effect. Posted by saturnspace. I'm not sure, but I think that this images are showing the older version (280m+)

If I'm not wrong, we should expect at least another huge supertall symmetric with Ping An Center.

New Supertall Plans In Shenzen

Published on 30-05-2008 by Skyscrapernews.com
Approval has been given for a new supertall skyscraper for the Chinese city of Shenzhen called Hon Kwok City Center. Set to rise to a lofty 321 metres with 80 storeys, the tower is designed by Skidmore Owings and Merrill.

The project shies away from being flashy in the way a lot of skyscrapers are these days but instead the architects have gone for the classic box look which might make some think it would be more at home on an American skyline.

Opting for clean strong lines the tower is made of glass and steel, and is simply an elegant rectangle that pushes slenderness to the limit with an impressive height to width ratio of over 7 to 1.

At its peak there is a covered over void which may have a sky garden located there encased on two sides and sheltered by semi-transparent glass.

Pretty much straightforward, only a few chiselled out lines stop what otherwise would be a huge sheer faced monolith. Another feature is the name of the project is worked into the façade so there will be no excuses of not knowing what building it is.

The tower will presumably be for office use judging by the fact the building takes its name from Hon Kwok Land, a huge investment company, though it may well have some retail or apartments sneaked into it somewhere.

Outside the tower at is base is surrounded by tress so workers will be able to take a break in a fairly tranquil place, they may be have to put up with traffic sounds but you cant have everything.

Work on the tower is expected to begin later this year.

S.O.M. designs another Giant for China

Monday, June 16, 2008

Shenzhen, China (NCS) – Skidmore Owings and Merrill (S.O.M.), the American architecture firm responsible for the design of the Sears Tower in Chicago, the Jin Mao Building in Shanghai and the Burj Dubai in Dubai – among many other notable buildings – will be adding another supertall to its very impressive list of world’s tallest structures.

Can someone place this building on a map of Shenzhen? Will it be on ShenNan Road? What location exactly? Thanks.

I don't have a map to show you, but do you know the CATIC centre, a 245meter tall building which is currently under contruction, it is opposite to the CATIC centre. Or do you know the Shanghai Hotel, it is around that area.

Groundbreaking ceremony was slated to be held in Feb, but there is not much information about this building now.

The yellow outline is Hon Kwok, if I'm not mistaken. The big circular hole is CATIC, and the tall building farther right is SEG Plaza, with HuaQiangBei Road next to it and ShenNan running across the image

elegant building. I won't be bored if the city is filled with all this kind of simple and glass cladding high rises.
