And the gorgeous D2 tower as well, whose works are to start very shortly now ('autumn 2010')!

Back on topic now...

I had seen the pictures but never the video, so, for those understanding either french or russian, here it is:

Great news today: the demolition work to make way for the 337m (1,106 ft) Hermitage Towers will start on January 3, 2011. It's the start of a new era for La Défense and Paris!

Yes, 13 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower. We discovered that in a detailed architect's plan. The Russian developer has been very quiet on that, because they probably didn't want to generate a controversy ("Russian developer to build twin towers taller than Eiffel Tower"). So instead of quoting the height from street level (337 meters), they quoted the height from the elevated concrete slab of La Défense (323 meters), which happens to be... 1 meter short of the Eiffel Tower. And voilà. Controversy avoided. Magic really!

Not only are the Hermitage Towers taller than the Eiffel Tower, but they will also look taller than the Eiffel Tower in the skyline of Paris. The tip of the Eiffel Tower's antenna reaches 357.5 meters above sea-level, whereas the flat roofs of the Hermitage Towers will be 365 meters above sea-level.

The document above says abestos will be removed from the current building. Nothing states it will be demolished in the end.

The document says "curage de la totalité des équipements" ("removal of all utilities"). It's quite clear this is done only when a building is to be demolished.

Good news on the height increase. Last I checked, the height of the Emirates Park Towers in Dubai has been decreased to 325 m due to the lack of a spire. If the height of the Hermitage holds, it could end up being the second tallest twin structure in the world!
