Balance is a nice thing, it's comforting in a way and pleasant to watch, no matter its form. This project lacks balance. Design wise as in its location. It looks top heavy and feels like it's almost leaning towards Paris' low rise center, away from the La Defense cluster...

There was a time where i was saying, go on and built it already. But years have passed and over time i realize i'm disliking it more and more.

It will most certainly disfigure the Paris we love.

I like la defense, but the city center I certainly do not love, there is only one tall building besides the eiffel tower and it's getting all the flag and hate so that no other will ever rise there it really shows what nimbyism can do.

To be truthful, I hope these are never built. They look horrendous and will serve as purely yet another blight on the once-great Parisian skyline.

I think if they perhaps built something more classical and traditional it would be far better received - all round. Give me something like the Woolworth Building over this 'Hermitage' thing any day.

You must be on drugs.

La Defense is great. Not every city needs to be "towers only". And in what rule book in this universe does it say that all city centers must have towers? Again . I like what Paris is doing. It has two city "centers". An old one that is beautiful and classic, and a new one that is tall and modern. How could that be wrong in anyone's book? It's NOT "nimbyism" that's preventing more towers there, it's common sense and good taste.

Personally, I love the idea of separating the districts the way Paris has. Keep the older section of the city center as it was to preserve historical integrity, and allow La Defense to go crazy with as many modern skyscrapers as it likes.
Hermitage is a great project for La Defense- it is weird and unique, as a growing number of the La Defense buildings are, and its geometric awkwardness is its greatest merit in it's location. In a city like New York or London, it wouldn't do well, but in La Defense, it is perfect.

That would look totally out of place in La Defense, more so than the Hermitage Towers. Paris has enough classicism in its city center, no need to add pastiche in the modernist skyscraper district.

He was talking about the way they banned skyscrapers in the center leaving the Montparnasse Tower to stand alone. I would gladly welcome a cluster in its vicinity, since that area is not very historic, not to mention it would help the Montparnasse fit on the skyline better.

from hermitage plaza:

Quote:

Presse release

On the 24th of June, the Administrative Court of Cergy-Pontoise rejected all the appeals against the
building permits of the Hermitage Plaza towers.
Some plaintiffs’ appeals were dismissed by lack of interest in bringing proceedings. The other appeals,
namely from Allianz Life, AXA (Ugitour), Beacon Capital Partners (First Tower) and the Living in La
Défense Association (Association Vivre à La Défense), were dismissed and plaintiffs were condemned
to pay the legal costs.
« Since we announced our intention to build the towers with Norman Foster, one of the world’s leading
architects, we had to face a fierce and vindictive opposition that initiated numerous appeals. In the end,
fortunately, the law prevails. Previously, the Court of Appeal had already rejected all appeals against
the demolition permits. The Hermitage Group welcomes this decision as another very important step for
the realization of its project which is now entering the final phase prior to construction, » said Emin
Iskenderov, CEO of the Hermitage Group.
In addition, the work initiated with Bouygues Construction as a technical consultant for Hermitage
Group 5 years ago allowed to develop new building techniques and construction management that
will reduce the 6-year construction period to 4.5 years, thus catching up some of the time lost due to
these abusive appeals.
These appeal procedures have also delayed the launch of a project which will create 5,000 jobs during
its construction and 3,000 direct jobs for its operation.
Nevertheless, the Hermitage Plaza operation has already allowed for the creation of, and commitment
to, 300 social housing units in the Hauts-de-Seine department and the operation itself will create 135
additional social housing units for students.
The towers will be best-in-class in terms of technical efficiency and sustainable development. They were
designed to be certified BREEAM (an environmental assessment method and rating system for
buildings) with an « Excellent » rating, which will be a world premiere for a mixed-use tower.
In late September, Emin Iskenderov, will hold a press conference during which he will detail the
next project milestones and the adjusted timetable for the development.

24 June 2015, 09:56 PM
