Manchester United should draw quite nicely because they're Manchester United. Over the last couple of years Barcelona and Real Madrid have played before well over 90,000 in such locations as the Rose Bowl and FedEx Field. Inter, AC Milan, Chelsea and Club America all drew very well during the World Football Challenge last year. Americans will generally come out to see the top clubs in the world on our soil. The MLS may not receive an appreciable bump in attendance as a result of the World Cup, but the other top clubs should see a significant turnout when they come to visit over the next month or so.

You don't like Qualcomm?! I LOVE Qualcomm. Tis one of my favorites.

More than a few sightline issues at Qualcomm, looks good enough, but the field proportions are all wrong for football.

I was at that 'snow globe' playoff game against Seattle a couple of years ago, too. From our front-row seats in the south end zone, at the peak of the snow I could barely make out the glow of the scoreboard at the other end of the field.

Poor sightlines are confined to the upper nitherlands of the highest deck. I wrote this earlier in this thread on 06.13.2010;

I know when Mexico played there in 2007 & '08 the very ends of those lower seats were removed to accommodate "futbol" pitch. Those sections of seats are moveable.

If the Chargers move out they could just take a few seats out of the lower corners, shave off a few in the upper, reconfigure the concourses and they could have a decent SSS.

Try the entire scoreboard end, you can't see the endzon from the lower level in that end. Not to mention the first few rows on the sidelines are useless for football, at field level, way back behind, not above the benches, those should be some of the best seats in the house, not some of the worst. Its the Same problem that most stadiums designed for both baseball and football suffer from (The Vet and some of the other cookie cutters in particular).

Is it the lack of a drab miserable grey sky?
The cohesive flow of the tiers rather than ill thought out hodgepodge of shed like grandstands?

Nah, just having a little fun mate.

who wants the same style and feel of stadiums in every spot around the world

just like each nation has its own style of playing the game, surely its also good to have each nation's personality reflected in its stadium

otherwise it will all be very boring and homogeneous, with a cookie cutter tournament every four years with everything the same except the postcards

You're point? They're first and foremost American Football stadiums and fit such a purpose. Major League Soccer has gone out of the way in building small sized "Soccer-specific" stadiums as they put it and they're more suited and feel like soccer grounds.

The US is only putting forward their large NFL stadiums because of large capacity, with most fitting FIFA standards. Much more capacity than any upgraded MLS stadium could offer.

As such expect the MLS stadiums to be used as training grounds.

Heck, if lesser stadiums than what's on offer could work for 1994, then surely it would most definitely work for 2022.

The question is, will the open air stadiums require a roof as per FIFA insistence? Or will FIFA let this one slip?

Technically it's not if it's not going to host either the opener or final.
But yes, it's an example of a stadium that can host Soccer and look fine.

Will there be public transport near the stadium in time for a WC? Surely you don't expect foreign fans to drive there and pay 40 odd bucks for parking!
