Then why not make them an entirely TV-event and put the games on pay-TV? Who needs big stadia if, correctly so, broadcast rights are more important?

Shouldn't therefore matter if fairly impressive gate receipts help the org'ers and host govt's recoup some of their expenses.

USA hosted World Cup = USA viewers. The USA does not watch a bunch of soccer, but if the World Cup was hosted in the USA, every American and every person on the north and south american continence would watch every second. And soccer is one of those sports where no matter what time the game is played, you will stay up and watch. 3:00 am in Asia, trust me, they will be awake. 4:00 pm in Europe, the cities will call it a holiday and they will be watching. If FIFA can start the UIFA Championship at midnight in Moscow, then im sure game times in America wont be a problem.

I think the problem is that games would be scheduled for the convenience of European audiences. This would mean local kickoffs in the heat of the day to accommodate fans in Germany/Italy/France. Not good for players, nor spectators in stadias without roof's.

In the 1994 (and 1986) World Cups, performances from players were not at the level they could have been from due to the punishing climate.

While Asian football fans may well make up the majority of fans, they don't provide the majority of the cash for the WC. UEFA members do.

Yeah, nobody buys sneakers or knee pads or balls in a market of 300,000,000. And forget the other 220,000,000 people in Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean.

Hours aren't good for players or European audiences? Boo-hoo. Yeah, swimming, T&F and gymnastics finals in Beijing aren't good for 18 other time zones in the world. Hard life. I guess it's really tough to get up in the morning and live a day.

Heaven forbid they have to play during the Day! We are asking to much if they have to play between 1 pm and 6 pm when the sun is still up. Baseball and Football can be played during mid day but not soccer, it has to be played at night or else they will get to tired and some under dog team might win, we cant have that now can we?

The fact remains, the timezone of Brazil 2014 is a problem as well but with Brazil's tradition in the game, people don't mind so much. The USA has little football tradition so the paymasters of the game being asked to swallow it twice in a row could be a problem.

FYI - Most people do not watch recordings of the Olympics. It is a US phenomenon.

2022 is the USA's best chance. 2018 is a long shot at best.

Don't worry about WC hosting. If a nation refuses to vote for USA you just call it an axis of evil and threatens to bombard it. That's cure-all for such a bastard.

Well, football is a little more physically demanding than baseball or american football

If that's the level of knowledge I'm amazed you're so desperate to host the World Cup.

"No roofs for the spectators; but indoor games are a joke."

"Can't have it during the day -- too hot. Would tire out the players"

Then, why do they have teams of 22? Just so the other 11 can be bench-warmers?

"Can't have it at night -- will mess Europeans' lives."

Then, why even bother to play a game?

i know soccer, its over ratted in the "more physically demanding" then Football argument. They are jogging or walking half the time and only run for like 10 seconds, and when the flop they cramp up because they didn't properly warm up and stretch for walking/fogging/short sprints before they pass the ball, football is all out every play, every down.

The population of China alone is more than twice larger than that of USA, Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean

There are 11 men in a team. There are also substitutes. Usually replacing injured players or for tactical reasons. Only 3 may be used so 8 must play 90 (or 120) minutes. They don't use oxygen masks to recover or take fluid injections at half-time. They get on with the job.

In the European Cup Final, some player total distance was 12-13km. In a normal 90 minute game, 9-11km.

ya, and once a player is out, he cant come back in, which is a another stupid rule. And why cant they stop the clock when the ball goes out of bounds or there are corner kicks or penalty kicks? it makes no since and confuses you as to how many minutes are actually left, the officials are left to "Guess" on how many minutes were wasted. I could fix soccer for americans in 1 hour

Maybe make the goals bigger while you're at it?

Well, India is #2 -- you don't see them giving the WC to India.

What is it with this obsession of yours over China? They will certainly NOT get a WC any time soon before the USA or the UK.

DO I have to repost what I said about China earlier?

In some regards, it's really a slow, tedious game.

And this 'off-side' rule -- another totally murky area.
