Why I love this city (1/2): Over and through the streets of Vancouver

Hey all, I was out and about taking pics around downtown and False Creek yesterday on a lovely Friday afternoon so I figured why not share them.

I took quite a few pics so this thread is just Part 1 of 2. Make sure to check out Part 2 as well:
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...6#post21303746

In Part 1, I start off at the Lookout at the Harbour Centre and then wander over to Yaletown.

Enjoy!

From the Harbour Centre:

Wherever did they get such a great poster?

Nice pictures, thanks! My Mothers friend is moving to Vancouver to head an AIDS research group there in a few months time and he loves the city.

Why is it that there are... Interesting methods of distributing power in North American cities? Power lines like this scare the living daylights out of me and yet from browsing Google Earth (and the pictures from Panoramio) there appears to be quite a few like this!

Great photos, your tread just made my partner very homesick. Very much looking forward to checking out Vancouver next year.

It has such a libertine and free spirited appearance, am I wrong?

A good thread, really good!

Ya they do make things look a little grittier... which is perhaps why I kind of like them. In Vancouver the power poles/lines only look like that in the alleys for whatever reason. I think they're really just remnants from the city's simpler days and so far it hasn't really been worth the money to put them underground just to make some back alleys more aesthetically pleasing. I'm sure at some point in the near future they'll need to be renovated/replaced and at that point they'll probably be buried.

Thanks for the pictures raggedy13. I just visited the Harbour Centre for the first time on June 4th. What a terrific view. I also enjoy, your street view pictures with the people enjoying the outdoors.
The public parks downtown are well used.

I think I took a picture from this same spot a couple months ago.

LOL. I think we all know what's at the base of that Parisian looking building. I love that building. It's funny that it has a couple of marijuana smoking lounges at its base. I didn't go there to smoke, don't worry all. I just wanted to see what a place like that was like. The U.S. obviously doesn't have places like that.

GREAT PICTURES!!!!
