Beautyfull pictures.
I like the diversity of architecture and also the audacity of London's architects..
Ok, It's not the best result every time but it shows the dinamism of a real capital, and it really makes a city with a strong identity....

London must have every example of every architectural style ever. The amazing thing is that the city is so cool that even the ugly bits wind up looking groovy!

fitz44,

Thank you for this amazing collection.
For a long time I considered myself to be an armchair expert on what there is to see in London. I’ve been there a couple of times since and came to understand that the distinction of truly knowing this city can only be fully realized until you've lived there for many years.
During one such trip I tried to “see it all” in a few days, and ended up crippling my feet to such an extent that I had to spend the last couple of days in my hotel.

This is a magnificent collection of photos. I couldn’t scroll past even one of them before saying to myself “I’ve never seen THAT one before.” And the more I said this the more the uncomfortable reality set in that I am still basically a tourist. Ugh. What a stigma that can be at times.

Also, would you mind telling me the name or location of the following buildings?

1. What is the red brick building behind the modern?

2. This one reminds me of the Black Friar's Pub. Same architect?

3.

4.

Thanks William - it's been a real eye-opener for me too. London seems to be endless and inexhaustable once you start looking. I thought I knew it quite well until I spread my net a bit wider and you realise it's so vast, yet every small back-street is worth a look. It's constantly changing too, shedding its old skin and aquiring a new one. Amazing - no other city has that combination of history and ceaseless eruption of new buildings I think.

The red brick building in pic 1) is part of the Lister Hospital on Chelsea Bridge Road - this view is from around the back from the Grosvener Wharf site.

The lovely "Boulting" building in pic 2) is by H. Fuller Clark in Riding House St in the West End - and yes, you've got a good eye. He did the Blackfriars pub as well.

Pic 3) is the old Fire Station on Chiltern St in Marylebone - there are plans to turn it into a boutique hotel I think.

Pic 4) is now the Central Foundation Girls School in Bow East London.

incredible thread Fitz! and such a pleasure to hear such positive comments about a city where so much negativity is promoted in the press.

Thanks guys! I really think London is so large and varied it's hard to hold an idea or concept of it in your head. London is whatever you make of it, in that sense. If you look for the negative you'll find it - but if you look for great buildings and appreciate them - you'll find that too.
