Great, but it seems like things aren't likely to happen any time soon.....

.
Then, on March 9th 2009, a NEW thread was started, called : "Petition for Newcastle & Gateshead sub-forum" . . . The above 'thread' could not be transferred into our sub-forum (when we eventually got it) as it is in the "Forum Issues" section of SSC, whereas we are in the "Projects & Construction" section of SSC. However, I can transfer some (a few) of the most salient 'posts' from that thread, so that we have the full story of how we got our sub-forum by 14th October 2009. It was all started off by Chris (bigchrisfgb) on the date I mentioned above - March 9th 2009 . . . Quote:

Interesting slant on how the north-east subforum came into being.
Shame it's not entirely correct and neglects to mention the years of campaigning by Hull forumers previous to this. Like on here http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...=493570&page=3 with the first post by me about the matter dated July 2007. If you do read thqat thread from start to finish it is perfectly clear that the idea formed from discussions between forumers from cities all over the UK putting forward a variety of different possible ways to move forward and improve the opportunities for multiple thread discussions. No matter how certain Newcastle forumers like to spin things, we have not landed with a north-east forum due to some noble, brave crusade by them for which we must all be eternally thankful. Sorry. There has always been a bit of a self congratulatory back-slapping trait for claiming sole credit for this from time to time from some of the newcastle posters on here and it irks a bit to be honest. |

I was aware of two threads about the desire and intention to try to form a North East Sub-Forum. One was called "Need for North East England's own Sub-Forum" and eminated from Teesside. That thread is THIS ONE here (that we are writing on) and was transferred here by SSC when our sub-forum came into being in October 2009. The other one was called "Petition for Newcastle & Gateshead sub-forum" and eminated from Newcastle. Seemingly, it could not be transferred here in October 2009, as it was/is part of a different discrete area of Skyscraper City. So, the continued efforts of forumers on that second thread had never been fully represented in our new sub-forum, until I (as I explained in my post of earlier today) was able to transfer "a few" selected posts from that thread, to complete the story, from where the Middlesbrough/Teesside thread left off. If there were any other efforts to get a sub forum for North East England made by others (not currently represented in this thread) then all anyone had to do was to write about them on here!!! I would have loved to know about them, and reading through the thread you have now quoted, it would have been (as it now IS) a FANTASTIC addition to the "record of events leading to the forum" that this thread has turned out to be. There has been (on my part) NO ATTEMPT to "spin" any credit for the North East finally getting a sub-forum, for Newcastle or Teesside, or anyone else. The picture (the 'story') is now more complete than it has ever been, after the inclusion of the LINK to the earlier thread that you included legolamb . . . http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...=493570&page=3 Finally, as the Moderator for ALL of the North East England Forums (even though I was and am a primarily Newcastle "poster") I am here to (amongst other things) ensure a fair representation in every aspect of the life of our forum, to posters from all parts of the combined forum. If you felt like this, a "PM" to me would have been very much appreciated, as I do feel that it does not help for any of us to publicly participate in any form of inter-forum rivalry, other than occasionally "in fun", perhaps. If you want to discuss this further, perhaps the PM route? Last edited by Newcastle Historian; October 23rd, 2010 at 10:46 PM. |

I am aware of previouse attempts from posters from Hull in a petition for their own Sub-Forum, however at the time I think that petition was fairly silent or dead. However I do think it had an important role in the creation of the Sub-Forum as the idea to include Hull in the Sub-Forum came from the mods as I understand it. So I think Hull's previouse petitions were well remembered and I think to the idea of the mods at the time, the idea to create a Sub-Forum for 2 cities that had petitioned for it, and everywhere inbetween them was more less of a risk if they were two cities with their own Sub-Forums.
Anyway I think we have proved our cases that we earned a Sub-Forum now, and the matter is now dead matter and we can now look ahead to better things. All ready we have seen our Sub-Forum break record.expectations and other Sub-Forums post count, so now lets hope our cities start to have more positive developements in future for us to continue to grow. |
