Sure beats being strapped into a chair with your eyelids propped open with toothpicks being forced to watch an entire wretched episode of "Sophie" from start to finish... queasy just thinking about that one.

My God when that Sophie creature blinks and shakes her little ringlets with that genuine mandatory perkiness I just want to send her straight over to emergency special ed acting classes, and have the script writers rounded up for "re-education."

Yea... wow.
One thing I've noticed with some of the sunbelt megacities is how barren everything outside the narrow downtown core is. in Toronto it looks as if the city grows out of a park.. While in let's say Houston, it looks like the city grows out of a parking lot. |

Looking forward to The Listener as well, if Flashpoint is any indication. I saw a commercial for it announcing the upcoming season's shows on Space. Since CTV acquired Space will they be playing it there or will it also air (hopefully on a different night) on the main CTV network. I have a friend who would probably be interested in the show, but she doesn't get cable.

Would be nice to see it on my new big flatscreen, but I have been enjoying the little
streaming versions from the internet.

More Toronto playing itself. I've now read all the Murdoch books and highly recomment them. Link to Canada.com:
http://www.canada.com/topics/enterta...f-d84cf39aaec8 Murdoch Mysteries leads Gemini nominations Alex Strachan , Canwest News Service Published: Tuesday, August 26, 2008 No mystery here: Murdoch Mysteries, Citytv's period drama series starring Yannick Bisson as an eccentric but resourceful police detective working the cobble stoned streets of Toronto in 1895, parlayed its keen sense of time and place to earn a field-leading 14 Gemini nominations Tuesday. Murdoch Mysteries was nominated for best dramatic series and best writing. It also earned seven acting nominations, for supporting actors Thomas Craig and Jonny Harris, and for guest performers Kate Trotter, Stephen McHattie, Dmitry Chepovetsky and Vincent Walsh. Gavin Crawford, better known for his comedic roles, was nominated for his dramatic guest appearance in Murdoch Mysteries. Oddly, Bisson, the series' star, was overlooked. Murdoch Mysteries was also nominated for its cinematography, art direction, music, costumes, visual effects, casting and make-up. CityTV's Murdoch Mysteries earned a field-leading 14 Gemini nominations Tuesday. (CityTV) The period drama evolved from a series of made-for-TV movies that originally aired on Bravo. The TV movies were in turn based on author Maureen Jennings' popular Detective Murdoch series of mystery novels. This year's field of nominations reflects a renewed emphasis on homegrown TV drama, which has fallen on hard financial times of late. Durham County - The Movie Network and Global TV's intense, tightly wound, present-day mystery about a series of murders in a small Ontario town - followed with 13 nominations, including five for its performances. Hugh Dillon, Justin Louis, Helene Joy, Laurence Leboeuf and Sonya Salomaa were all nominated in their respective categories. The Tudors, CBC and Showtime's costume epic about the reign of King Henry VIII, and the CBC miniseries The Englishman's Boy, each received 12 nominations. Natalie Dormer, Gabriel Anwar and Sam Neill were nominated for their performances in The Tudors; Nicholas Campbell, R.H. Thomson, Katharine Isabelle and Michael Eisner were nominated for The Englishman's Boy. The Border, CBC's returning ensemble drama about a fictional border agency, earned nine nominations overall, including best drama series and best directing. Actors James McGowan, Bayo Akinfemi, Jonas Chernick and Catherine Disher were also nominated. Intelligence, Chris Haddock's acclaimed but cancelled series about undercover CSIS operatives, was nominated for five Geminis: best drama, best directing and for actors Ian Tracey, Camille Sullivan and Pascale Hutton. Corner Gas, last year's winner for best comedy, earned a repeat nomination in that category, as well as nods for best directing, photography and editing. Once again, the show's popular cast was snubbed. Awards in news, lifestyle, documentary, sports and children's programming will be handed out over three nights, on Oct. 20-22. Winners in the high-profile categories of best drama, comedy, TV movie, miniseries and actor and actress will be announced Nov. 28 at a broadcast gala in Toronto, and televised on E! Gemini nominations are decided by voting members of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, a national, non-profit organization established in 1979 to recognize the best in Canadian film and television. "This was a banner year for Canadian television,'' academy CEO Sara Morton said in a statement. "The nominees announced today truly exemplify the depth and breadth of our country's talent, both in front of and behind the camera.'' The academy also adjudicates the Genie Awards, given annually to the best in Canadian film.

I only got to the first 30 minutes of "Attention Shoppers"
Anyone have a link to the rest of it? I found it was quite interesting (first time I saw flashpoint). The reactions of the actors are quite good - there was a lot of tension but not really a feeling of panic or overacting. Cheers, m |

Anyone watch the premiere of Fringe? Saw various locations from U of T, e.g. Knox College, University College, the Bahen Ctr, King's College Circle.
