The Murdoch Mysteries are on Global now, and as I am almost at the end of the series of books, I did manage to catch one episode. I don't like the piece of wood that they chose for Detective Murdoch, and was sad to see they have tried to focus so much on the forensic science that it is a sort of Victorian CSI. I wanted more outdoor scenes of "Victorian Toronto", but they are obviously more $$ to film than indoor shots. Maybe the rest of the series was better.

While on the treadmill here in Florida last night, I was watching an episode of the Last Comic Standing on one of the club's TV monitors and it was filmed at Yuk Yuk's in DT TO!
Between acts, they showed tons of scenes of DT landmarks, like City Hall, NPS, etc. I loved it. |

Sure. Access Hollywood, and E-Talk in the same hour! Can't wait.

The last big Canadian show in USA was...? Cleopatra 2525? Ready or Not? or a more respectable Degrassi Next Gen?

Meanwhile, Corner Gas is gaining a foothold in the US since pretty much going into syndication here. I remember the commotion in the US media when CBC's Little Mosque on the Prairie first came out. We may be on the verge of more Canadian content winding up on American airwaves. |

I think Little Mosque on the Prairie was picked up in Europe, in countries like France.
I very much like Sheila McCarthy as an actress ever since she was in one of my all time favourite Canadian films: "I've heard the Mermaids Singing".

Well, the thing is that none of those shows identified their location (not sure about the Cleopatra 2525).

I watched a movie last year about the FBI or something saving the President from assassination in Toronto and it was really supposed to be toronto! And Michael Douglas was in it I think?

I watched a scene being filmed on Gloucester, and Michael Douglas was charming to all of us in the little crowd! Was a hot night, just like tonight. Then I saw him and his family having dinner at a restaurant. Katherine Zeta Jones is drop dead gorgeous in real life, too.

I guess sometimes you expect famous people to look worse in real life.. for instance I am certain it would scare me out of a years growth to see Madonna open her front door in the morning to take in the pint of milk and newspaper. But KZJ looked pretty effortlessly stunning and their family seemed so normal and happy. Nice to see.

Being from NYC, I say 100% YES! LOL
I LOVE Toronto! I can't wait for these shows. If these shows get big just watch the exposure that Toronto's going to get. I "discovered" Toronto in 2006 and I was like, "Where have u been all my life!?" A lot of people really have no idea how special Toronto is when it comes to North American cities. I love NY, but I love Toronto more

^that's just a plain nice and refreshing post, thanx... there are so many T.O. trolls out there, it's great to hear you say what most of us who live here know.
The only thing is... when you are no longer a "best kept secret"... what will happen? Tourism will definitely spike, but the old adage "careful what you wish for (international fame?)" come to mind. Nice post. |

It's a pity both these shows appear to be yet more Cop/Lawyer/Forensic type procedurals, as I'm sick to death of those. And one's airing on CBS nonetheless
! Law and Order SVU's the only one I watch on a regular basis nowadays. I might tune in but after wasting an hour with The Guard and in Durham County respectively, my appetite for Canadian programming has somewhat waned. By contrast Blue Murder and the Eleventh Hour were good examples of edgy, riveting Canadian series that showcased Toronto as "Toronto". |

Ironically, there's a new show this fall coming to CBS called "Eleventh Hour". It's a Jerry Bruckheimer show I believe.
