Dumping nuclear is foolish, there is no way we can replace base load power with renewables in this country.

Wouldn't it be nice if three wind turbines could replace a nuclear reactor? More likely 200,000 wind turbines, but three looked better for the video.

Nuclear is a very green energy source when the waste is recycled properly. Canada doesn't recycle it because the US doesn't want it to happen so close to them. (The waste is momentarily weapons-grade during the recycling process.) In terms of MW per tonne of GHG it is by far the greenest source of energy, more so than Hydro for the first few decades of a hydro project. (Plus the reservoir alters the physical geography more than a uranium mine does.)

We should focus on point-of-use generation with solar, wind, geothermal and other methods to reduce demand from the base load system, so that we don't need to use as many natural resources.

Inferior? My man, have you ever lived in Oshawa? Comparing downtown Toronto to that in an insult. (Mind you, they are starting to get things right out there....) Toronto could be better, but where couldn't? We'll get our crap sorted out eventually, because humans always do, and Toronto has more to its name than most cities do.

He didn't compare Oshawa to Toronto....

But the usurping of smaller cities who historically were independent of Toronto into the all-encompassing GTA is sad. They lose their identity over time due to the growing influence of Toronto over the region.
Obviously there is a lot of forgettable sprawl, but there are gems within the metro area that get overshadowed by Toronto's dominating presence.

That that, my friend, is the story of every big city around the world. They are composed of former independent towns and cities.

Yes. I was thinking of editing my post for a third time and saying that it is a pattern that all expanding big cities experience, at least in the west.

Where I grew up in Thunder Bay used to be a separate village called Jumbo Gardens. It is now just a neighbourhood, and its name is slowly changing to Dawson Heights. The only thing left that uses the term Jumbo Gardens is a bus route that will be replaced in two years.

It would have been cool if it was still a separate city. "City of Jumbo Gardens" sounds wicked.

I dont think its inferior, Toronto is great and has been improving alot over the last 10 years, Oshawa has a long way to go before i would consider it a place to actually want to visit the place, but im glad there slowly improving a little bit.

I think as people get pushed out of Toronto due to soaring prices the smaller surrounding cities like Oshawa will attract people who want to be close to the major urban center but also want some of the culture so a place like Oshawa will build more condos, businesses will spring up, and it will all feed on each other. Expanding transit would also help the smalller cities in the gta.
