To me, I think it's an OK building. It would suit Lower Manhattan, and be a welcomed addition there I'm sure... but something so close and SO tall next to ESB needs to be Tower Verre standard - slim, and a querky design.

I worry this could end up looking like beauty and the beast, kinda like what the Shard in London looks like next to Guy's Tower.

This was just on NBC nightly news. It's going to be built. To height. Very soon.

Just a little 1min spot with a rendering next to Brian Williams. He said basically that the empire state could be getting some company in the near future. Mentioned the opposition but in general leaned much more positive. More of a look what's coming feel.

My assertions of being built to height, very soon were not explicit from NBC Nightly, it was just what I believe will happen.

I believe that it's coming soon to. Clearly, it will be approved to full height, and I believe that Morgan Stanley will be the anchor tenant.

Because if you live in nyc you don't stay in a hotel, and people in the us don't really care about low cost elegant accommodations. This building needs to be landmarked and left alone, the proposed project should be moved downtown, they are talking taking away 1700 affordable hotel rooms and building a faceless useless office tower across the street from a major national transportation hub. Stupid.

I mean, it will also ruin the skyline completely.

Vornado presented this model at the hearing on 23 Aug. 2010.

For those not familiar with NY, the model includes a 2.5m square foot building that Sherwood Equities plans to build. It will be located on Sherwood's lot, part of which is currently empty and part of which contains a McDonald's lot. The lot is located on W34th St and 10th Ave. This could turn out to be a 400m+ tower. There is no design at the moment and the white rectangular "block" simply (depicted to the left of 15 Penn) shows the height of what will be built. More information about Sherwood's future tower can be seen on its website: http://www.sherwood-equities.com.

Boston Mayor seeks ally to force Vornado to fix Boston blight

http://bostonherald.com/business/gen...ome&position=4

Honestly , why would they do that? They don't have the $$$ to build that , but they can build a skyscraper in NYC? Reminds me of the Tucker Development corp promising 2 projects in Newark and can't even start them....

First building to go beyond the 600ft mark...

To complete the kill, also the 148m City Investing Building was demolished.

(the second tallest, next to Singer Building)

Well ladies and gentlemen of New York, it looks like the days of the Empire State Building being the supernal behemoth of Midtown Manhattan will soon be at an end.

They are going to be allowed to build it and there will now be two epochs in Midtown Manhattan history - "Post ESB 1931 Midtown" and "Post ESB Midtown with 15 Penn Plaza trying to "gatecrash the party"", May God have mercy on their souls.

City Council To Vote On New Midtown Skyscraper
By: NY1 News

The City Council is set to vote today on whether or not to approve plans for a new skyscraper across from Penn Station.

The developer, Vornado Realty Trust, says the building at 15 Penn Plaza would bring much-needed office space to Midtown and create jobs.

But the owner of the Empire State Building says the project would obstruct the views of the iconic skyscraper, and has released his own renderings, pictured right, to back up his complaints. The 67-story tower would be just 34-feet lower than the Empire State Building.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg is defending the project.

"Anybody that builds a building in New York City changes its skyline,” said the mayor. “We don’t need to run around to every other owner and apologize. This is something that‘s great for the city, and you know, competition's a wonderful thing. One guy owns a tall building and wants it to be the only tall building, well sorry, that’s not the real world."

New Yorkers said they, too, support a change in the skyline.

"It would add to it," said one New Yorker.

"I like the tall buildings and all the lights," said another. "That's why people come to New York, right? It's the lights that attract."

"It's New York, there are buildings all over the place," added a third.

The City Planning Commission has already approved the tower.

New York City Council Land Use Committee Approves Vornado Tower

August 25, 2010
By Henry Goldman and David M. Levitt

Quote:
A New York City council committee approved Vornado Realty Trust’s plans for a 1,200-foot (366- meter) Manhattan skyscraper that’s opposed by the owners of the nearby Empire State Building.

The council’s land use committee approved the tower by a vote of 19-1, with two members abstaining. The building will be voted on by the full council later this afternoon.

Amazingly, in a recession, Midtown is getting at least three 300+m buildings with a fourth (225 W 57th) in the works!

This project will be approved? Wooowww Good! The more tall buildings, the better!

Now everyone speaks ill of the project, but I guarantee that when ready, everyone will love the project. I remember the Beekman tower, spoken very badly at first, now almost everyone loves the finished project.

It will be a big change on the horizon, but this is New York, the city has to grow!
