No, only the hotel. The mall will take up the same 60% of the block it already does.

So will we not get the version where the tower was set back from the base? Good!

I sure hope it is the taller of the two. The base looks better on the shorter tower, but the rest of the tower looks better on the taller. It's skinnier.

Nice to hear that the Empire State Building shall no longer be standing so alone...
Great addition to midtown Manhattan, something that will look good and stand out.

After being approved by the City Planning Commission in July, plans for a 1,200-foot tower just two avenues away from the Empire State Building are being reviewed by the City Council. If passed, the tower at 15 Penn Plaza would be a huge change to the New York City skyline. And the Empire State Building isn't happy about it.

Anthony Malkin of Malkin Holdings, an ESB owner, wrote to the City Council:
"The Empire State Building is the internationally recognized icon on the skyline of New York City. We are its custodians, and must protect its place. Would a tower be allowed next to the Eiffel Tower or Big Ben’s clock tower? Just as the world will never tolerate a drilling rig next to The Statue of Liberty, why should governmental bonuses and waivers be granted to allow a structure as tall and bulky at 15 Penn Plaza to be built 900 feet away from New York City’s iconic landmark and beacon?...If built, be as much a scar on the complexion of New York City as the loss of Penn Station."

That is a laughable argument for a building in the middle of one of the densest cities on the planet...

Well it had to happen sooner or later (to the ESB people). Just wait in 50 years, there'll be 20 skyscrapers that tall next to the ESB. And in 100, I doubt we'll even be able to see the ESB.

I have an incredible amount of love and respect for the ESB, but New York can't be ruled by an 80 year old building forever.

Either way, I'm very happy this baby got approved, and can't wait to see it get off the ground

I just wrote an essay about 15 Penn Plaza, arguing that it should be built. I got an A

Well, good for you! Did you argue it in front of the City Planning Commission? Maybe it will begin sooner if you do!

15 Penn Plaza is already approved, so aren't we just waiting for an anchor tenant?

Here is a 3-day-old article I just found:

Hopefully the building will have some kinda light system like the GE building, but more modern, but only to compliment the ESB.
