I love the GE building... I've never seen what it looks like at night though... I imagine with that intricate crown it looks very cool

I have good faith that in a year or so we'll see demolition and ground clearing for 15 Penn

I like this building as much as anyone, but I wish it was not built so close to the ESB. It sort of subtracts from the centerpiece of New York IMO.

New York is running out of vertical space, so the Empire State Building will eventually have tall buildings around it.

If it is approved like it says, it is only a matter of time before we see tenant seeking, contracts and preparation, am I right?

It is approved, and yeah it's only a matter of time. There is enormous demand for large blocks of new office space in Manhattan, as not much has been built recently. By years end Related CEO Stephen Ross said he expects to have commitments for 3 million sf at the Hudson Yards, so with that nearly full, and a smaller office building on 55th and 8th full, I think we'll start to see companies sort of scramble, and the dominos will start to fall in terms of these buildings locking up anchor tenants as less and less space is available.

I myself am not familiar with any info sources related to 15 Penn aside from forum updates of course but I assume we will see some news about this despite the lack of conversation on this particular forum. Especially considering the issues with building room manhattan has and the potential "scrambling" for office space

I hope they don't resort to the 850 foot compromise. Because the taller the more marveling obviously. But it would still be a fascinating building

No it's going to be around 1,200 feet. And with no spire it will dominate the skyline.

I certainly hope this does start soon, it will work well next to ESB there will be a great contrast of old and new supertalls working together to create one beautiful skyline.

I'm glad somebody has the same viewpoint as I do. That's what the people who are so concerned with their view of esb need to realize. I mean, the empire state building is almost 80 years old. They're lucky something this large hasn't been built near it yet. And as the future approaches, bigger and more modern supertalls WILL be built near esb. They had to realize that at some point in time they'd need to stop whining and let the future of NYC progress.

I will never get over that the ultra-slim Tower Verre was forced to cut its height, so as "not to detract from ESB", and yet it's blocks away while this bulky pos is approved right next door to it!

I heard that Tower Verre was forced to re-design over exposed mechanical at the top of the building. Don't know why the height was cut though.

I think DZH is right... I think both of these buildings were supposed to be cut down a few hundred feet at first but I have also heard that 15 was reconsidered and will soon be built at the original height once an anchor tenant is found

15 Penn Plaza should have cut its height instead of Tower Verre.
