Please please PLEASE tell me your joking... Please for the love of God... ESB is THE iconic building. You ask anyone anywhere in the world to name a supertall skyscraper, and the first answer will almost always be "Empire State Building". If not, it's Chrysler or the Original World Trade Center. But many more times then not, it's ESB.

I don't remember where I read it, but I was reading an article about the Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai. The article described Jin Mao as "... the Empire State Building of China..." A completely unrelated skyscraper on the other side of the world is compared to the ESB in terms of iconisism. That just shows how iconic ESB is.

I don't get why you'd even suggest ESB isn't iconic :p

It has to be because you're from New York and grew up with it. Around the rest of the world, ESB is the first thing to come to mind when "skyscraper" is mentioned.

I think ESB a icon. Wait but I was born in NYC, raised in a bunch of different states, grow up in Ohio but I live in NYC now lol. Of course ESB a icon, it's all over then place. Movies, tv, magazines, news papers, postcards, videogames and so on. If it isn't iconic then nothing in NYC is.

I'd say the Twins were more iconic, but ESB is iconic too. Though that doesn't mean that new stuff shouldn't be built next to it

The world trade center became a huge icon because of 9/11, many people saw them on postcards yes, but not many non skyscraper loving people could not point them out, ouside of new york and new jersey, and say those are the twins of the wtc while everyone know the esb.

Anyway i do not like the design of this building it seems to fat to me, maybe it will grow on me but for right now something seems off about it

I disagree. WTC was the third most recognizable buildings in NYC. Not only that ESB was 40 years older and had a far better design.

I hope the new wtc gets attention once it passes esb and once it is completed. I'd say about 75% of Americans aren't aware of 1 wtc's progress. And atleast 10% don't even know it's being rebuilt. It needs to be recognized better

That's 1000% true. As a foreigner I can tell you that all of us have seen the Twins fall, but a half year ago, I didn't even know that the WTC was being rebuilt, just as nearly everybody I know

I would actually say your figures are generous. Hardly anyone I know has a clue about it.

This tower is simply stunning... Especially in that picture with the lights on and also showing the ESB... I think both buildings will complament each other.

Well I thought if I had said 20 or 25% people would say cmon america's not that tuned out. But come to think of it, not many people know.

Living 10 miles or so from downtown manhattan, obviously everyone around me knows because they see it all of the time. But at a family reunion in Georgia, virtually no one in my family knew that the world trade center was nearly 70 floors at the time let alone even being rebuilt. I came in to a conversation with all of this WTC lowdown, and everyone was in disbelief.

Well Sept. 11, 2011 will be the 10th anniversary and every news channel will be focused in on "Ground Zero," making America realize it's not exactly Ground Zero anymore.

You people make it seem like, people in America are stupid. I know lots of people who know what's happen at the WTC. they're just not interested. Finding info about the new WTC isn't hard.

Yeah, but you have to keep in mind that most people aren't skyscraper fanatics like we are. Most people don't even know that Burj Khalifa is the tallest. An average man or woman just knows that there is the ESB and that there used to be the Twin Towers and that is all

Deleted loads of OT talk. People, this thread is about 15 Penn Plaza and not 9/11 memorial or anything else. Thanks for noticing.
