hm,hm, hmmmm.... I don't like this... I have nothing against building new skyscrapers...but ESB is the icon of NYC as the Statue of Liberty...this new building ruins the skyline...
and I don't approve the demolition of the historical buildings of Manhattan... it's a shame

I too have my doubts about this one... It's seems to conflict with ESB rather than
complement it. Maybe because the top is too heavy compared to it's neighbour...

Cityplanning wise, a more gentle height build-up towards the Yards would look
better i think.

That's because the points of views on the renders are from places where are those 2 building in the conflict..

But seriously, how many people goes to the cemetery enjoying the view? Or flyin' around the ESB?? From all other normal and usual places those 2 buildings look fine..

The ESB has been the king of the NY skyline for almost a hundred years. Now it's time it faces the 21st century. Despite what its owners want, the ESB does not own all of New York's air rights.

I see this completely different. I cant wait for the day that the ESB is surrounded by towers like the Chrysler or 40 Wall Street and you can hardly spot it. Imagine a 381m building surrounded by giants. What a view. O.O mind will be blown

I think the best thing to happen to new york would be to surround empier state building in a slight circle... Not to close to it with the ESB being the middle. Although i dont object to this tower. I think they look great together.

I wouldn't worry too much about the ESB being covered up too soon. It's location is nearly at the southernmost part of the shallow area of Manhattan schist where it's easiest to build tallest. Its location sitting west of 5th Ave puts it nicely in the middle. So until the easy land options in midtown and LM are exhausted, the ESB will always at least be a centerpiece visible from the south.

I don't like this proposed tower. It is to massive and has a negative impact on the skyline, especially on the sight on the ESB. It's not that i am against taller towers in Manhattan, but when you build such a massive structure in sight of the most remarkable skyscraper of the city you should at least build something iconic. Something which is worth claiming the main spot in the skyline. This proposed tower doesn't, it is just an ordinary glassbox which will also fit elsewhere on the world like Shanghai or Dubai. I hope they won't build it, or at least redesign it.

so many massive towers are going up right now. when jumbled up with all the developments in the future this building wont be looked at as some "big hunk a junk" blacking the skyline.

I always liked this building. It is one of my favorite projects in Manhattan, and in my opinion will be amazing the Empire State and 15 Penn Plaza together on the horizon.

And in future we will have many other projects for this area (as well as the Hudson Yards, Brookfield and others).

I 1000% agree with you. ESB and 15 Penn are simply meant to be together. They'll look awesome from any vantage point

It's a matter of time before several 300m+ towers rise on the site of the two warehouses seen on the bottom right.

Agreed RW. The area directly around Penn Station is also zoned for very tall buildings and there are some seriously underdeveloped sites in that neighborhood. With that in mind, the argument that this tower will ruin the view of the ESB is absurd. This is one of many high rises that will be built in the surrounding area. If the owners of the ESB don't want any competition in the area, let them buy Midtown South, otherwise deal with it.

these warehouses are actually giant post office buildings with garage for its trucks. I am sure it will be very hard to convince them to move.

Maybe not with the current financial position of the US postal service. This is high dollar RE and could generate a lot of cash to rework operations and get more efficient...

lets stop construction all together and preserve every building there is.
