I see no reason why this can't be built a block to the north.

Ever thought about a thing called "owning land" "owing a plot"? Having the air rights on a specific plot for said building, the regulations done etc?

+1

This thread, along with with a handful of other NY threads, have turned into complete sh!t shows. None of the last 5 pages have anything to do with the actual tower, and are filled with comments and questions so ridiculous they hardly deserve a response. A discussion about preservation in a city like NY is a discussion worth having, but not here, in a thread that is supposed to be about 15 Penn Plaza. Mods?

Before anything is happening there, the Penn Hotel is still occupying the site of 15 Penn Plaza.
So a discussion about just that is perfectly justified here.

Other WDN mods agree with me on this one.

If you can tell us something new about the tower, feel free to do so.

^ I won't challenge a mod however it would be nice to see more discussion about the new building (in fairness there isn't much to currently talk about) Do we have a thread to discuss the demolition of old buildings for new ones? I'm sure that would be popular.

Since the hotel will be around for a while, here's a 1920 shot of the old lady:

Is it just me, or will 15 penn block the view of the empire state building from New Jersey?

Seriously, this tower will only enhance the views of the ESB.

Any true skyscraper fan would appreciate new skyscrapers appearing on the skyline!
This gives the scenery a three dimensional view which changes based on location.

I could easily provide examples of this when viewing Midtown from the East River, but you should understand that this makes for exciting photography!

not until Vornado believes that it can get tenants for the tower. Currently they own the Hotel Pennsylvania which is on the site and will be demolished before the tower is built. Instead of demolishing it earlier they renovated it so they could earn money from the site.

I love the design for the building. I hope that it has that beautiful golden color shown in the nighttime render, but somehow I doubt it will in reality. Cool anyways!

Great building with its own signature, style and history. We need to take this seriously and save this hotel.

I don't see anything special, beautiful or even remotely interesting in this new proposition for the site. It is rather boring design with only one "worthy" characteristic, (which is not even worthy of anyone's attention) - it is quite tall for Manhattan. But not for the world. 380 meters is a very mediocre height.

I agree that 380 meters is medicore, but I think it looks still better than the old building that is about to be torn down

Kanto,

380m is not mediocre in any city in the world. Anywhere, it would be among the tallest structures, and in the overwhelming majority of cities, it would be the tallest by far. Picture this next to the Shard, for example. 15 Penn is way taller.

Moreover, it's quite beautiful. Anyway, I doubt that this will proceed for several years. Vornado cannot compete with Related on price.

I agree that it is beautiful. It is a masterpiece and in my opinion it looks very nice together with the ESB. For me it kinda looks like a modern version of the ESB
