Gotta agree with you there-- a Dubai Olympics would be soulless. Dubai doesn't stand a chance. This is where Dubai can't go futher. IOC likes establishment -- Dubai is not their sort of city. To the frustration of UAE-- they can build all the pretty stadiums they want to, but I am almost certain they will not get the Olympics. As I said earlier-- Istanbul will be the closest the Olympics comes to that region, and I can see them hosting by 2032. |

Even though i knew they'd never make it to this stage, im a bit disappointed that Baku didn't make it. They had the best logo and their stadium was unbelievable, reminiscent of Munich.
I like how the chicago olympic stadium which will be 80k can be scaled back to a community friendly 5k ampitheatre, what are they going to do, demolish it? Can anybody else get onto the madrid website, it seems to be down. I go for chicago. |

By 2016, Brazil would have transformed considerably but economically and culturally. The economy is reaping massive rewards for the upcoming oil drill, bio-fuel, coffee and other agricultural products at the moment. Should rival the Middle East.
The biggest concern is that the poor will be segregated even more intensively in the Games. There is a big population of 'undesirables' in Rio, which i think the politicians see them as crime-ridden during the Games. Tokyo will be guaranteed to be good, but do they really need it? Tokyo cannot possibly more globally renounced for many reasons. Why host the games when the city is already prestigious? More sporting venues? The country has even of it after the 1998 Fifa world cup.

The IOC loves money. Tons of it. That'll be the city that gets the Olympics. So Dubai stands a good chance - what's more, the IOC can dress it up as an olive branch to the misunderstood Islamic world into the bargain.

The IOC benifits from bidding and hosting fee's...and the interest on any loans its gives to hosting cities. The Games itself actually have no direct financial benifit for the IOC so it isn't in their interest to award big ticket cities the games. However, in any shakey times for the Olympic movement it is good for the IOC to award the Games to cities they believe won't have financial problems. Safe, secure, reliable cities. Dubai i think we would all consider a "safe" option, though i have doubts the games would have any soul. It would be Athens all over again minus the construction delays but add a serious lack of spirit. Why would the IOC go there when they could go to cities like Madrid, Tokyo, Chicago ect and be ensured a spiritful games, delivered on time, on budget. |

My vote is for Madrid. It will be a great thing for that city and a great turn around from when they had the terrorist attacks. Tokyo would be next as they held the Olympics in 1964 and it is 44 years ago. Chicago third but I think they should spend their money elsewhere. Rio last becasue they are hosting the world cup and the IOC should see how that goes before they elect them as host city. But these are just my thoughts.

The El is fine? It needs a serious overhaul. For example, and I don't think it has changed, there is no disable access to it. It's merely a simple city loop. It's unsafe too.

Definitely not Rio. Do people forget that it is after all a 3rd world city? It might have some beautiful scenery, hot humid weather and plenty of scantily clad ladies frolicking on the beach (at least according to the stereotype anyway) but at the same time it is poverty-stricken, crime ridden, polluted, etc... all other typical social ills that affect a 3rd world nation.

The IOC is pushing it's product to these cities to better infrastructure and to help bring forward change. If anything -- some of Rio's problem's might actually lure in the votes. |
