RM3 billion project to transform Labuan into busy island
2011/06/17
http://www.nst.com.my/articles/RM3bi...sland/Article/

LABUAN: Labuan is expected to be transformed into a busy island in the next two years from with the completion of the RM3 billion petroleum integrated project in Pulau Daat here.

The project, under the Economic Transformation Programme, has commenced with the phase 1 (earth works) to be completed before year-end at a cost of RM300-RM350 million.

The project, jointly undertaken by Sabah-based RG Gas and Chemicals and China-owned Zhuhai Winbase International Chemical Tank Terminal Co Ltd, is poised to create some 3,000 jobs for the locals during the construction phase.

RG Gas and Chemicals Sdn Bhd managing director, Jimmy YM Tang, said the project would turn Labuan into a significant oil and gas hub in the region.

"With the plan to turn Labuan into an oil and gas hub for the country similar to that of Pengerang in Johore, we are optimistic we can do our part to help realise this," he told reporters after the signing the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Sarawak-based oil and gas company, Borneo Oil and Gas Venture Sdn Bhd, here today.

The MOU is for the construction of tank farm terminal.

Tang said the mega project in the region has complied with the requirements of environmental impact assessment.

On the possibility of recruiting workers to help complete the project, he said: "Labuan may regain its glory like before with thousands of workers flooding the town when the Sabah Shipyard was still operational. We do not see any problem of getting the manpower, especially locals."

He said the completion of the project would see the building of the largest oil tank storage in the region.

"The infrastructure of the tank terminal will comply with international standard," he said. -- BERNAMA

New express bus station for Sg Petani

business centre with the sheltered express bus station.

SUNGAI Petani in Kedah will finally have a sheltered express bus station. The station will be located within a commercial centre called Dataran Usahawan which will be built at the present express bus station on Jalan Kuala Ketil.

Work on the RM10mil centre, a project by the Kedah State Development Corporation (KSDC), is scheduled to start in June and complete in 14 months.

Project architect Mohd Sobri Mustafa said the station would have nine bays for express buses and 32 ticketing booths.

He said there would also be parking bays for buses outside the building.

He said the centre, to have a built-up area of 5,632 square metres, would have 65 retail outlets.

The present express bus station together with its ticketing booths and hawker stalls would be temporarily shifted to the former Pasar Jumaat site across Jalan Kuala Ketil, Mohd Sobri told Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul in a briefing about the project on Thursday.

Johari said the temporary bus station should be tarred and have proper shelter for passengers and sufficient lightings for the con-venience and safety of passengers.

He requested the KSDC to install electricity and telephone lines to the ticketing booths as well as provide basic amenities for hawkers to be relocated to the temporary site so that their income would not be affected.

The Haven

The Haven expected to generate RM250m GDV
By Goh Thean Eu Published: 2010/10/20
http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_New...ven19/Article/

SuperBoom Projects Sdn Bhd, a property developer, expects its latest project in Ipoh, Perak, to generate a gross development value of about RM250 million.

The Haven, expected to be Perak's most luxurious condominium project, will comprise three residential blocks. So far, 80 per cent of the units at the first block and 20 per cent of the units at the second block have been booked.

According to chief executive officer Peter Chan, buyers can expect prices to rise by about 30 per cent.

"Currently, we are selling at RM338psf. But, we have been told that the property can fetch as much as RM450psf if the market knows what The Haven is all about," said Chan in a media briefing in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

He was speaking to the media after the signing ceremony with Bina Puri Holdings Bhd and Beijing Construction Engineering Malaysia. Superboom hired both companies as joint main contractors.

Chan expects the property market in Perak to grow with the new Ipoh-KL electric train service and as more planes fly to Ipoh.

"Perak has not seen major development in the last 20 years. But, with so much development recently, it certainly makes the timing of our project spectacular," said Chan.

The Haven will come in various types, from the entry level units of under 1,000 sq ft to penthouses of 5,000 sq ft. As the condominium is located near the hillside and forest, and has a lake view, Chan believes it can attract foreign buyers as well as those from Kuala Lumpur.

"Although these natural resources are a common sight to those living in Ipoh, it is something unusual for many of us. I think this makes The Haven an ideal place for vacation and an ideal place for a home," said Chan.

So far, piling work for the first block has been completed, and both Bina Puri and Beijing Construction Engineering are due to complete the project in 2013.

It also expects to open its third block for sale in about six months and prices of these units are expected to be higher than the current RM338psf it is offering for the first two blocks.
