just noticed that these renders were not yet posted in this section of SSC. It is going to be an astonishing new part of the centre of Rotterdam. Resistance is indeed futile

If you compare your sketch to the renderings and models you can see that it's wrong.

Well, the cube which EuroMaster made with paint should be more forewards to the boulevard.

But this surely is such a big project, uncomparable for Dutch standards!

I havent been to this city yet...
BUt i can surely say that this is one of the most fascinating Designs that I have seen..
Any idea who the architect is?
It seems to be very well thought of, in terms of the light and the pedestrain views...good effort...good job...I hope the fantastic spiral fins are replicated in the glazing the way it shows in the render..most of the renders look good..but once the glazing is up they look all the same...

The Architect is Rotterdam based Rem Koolhaas - OMA, same as for CCTV in Beijing.

Looks definitely awesome, but I have some things to say about it:

First: the big, huge ABN AMRO tower is a classic example of 70s brutalist tower building. Good riddance to it (I'll miss that wonderful electronic clock, though) but the 50s old ABN AMRO, facing the Coolsingel (well, facing these bizarre restaurant sheds) must be preserved at all costs. For me is one of the most outstanding buildings in the Coolsingel (it has a subdued classicism which enchants me) and it definitely deserves preservation. The project says it will be preserved, so I'm not worried about it; but maybe somebody will say that the new Cube requires a grand entrance from the Coolsingel. Don't let them.

Anyway, beware of the timetables. The ABN AMRO tower, built as it was at the time it was built, probably have enough asbestos to kill a small elephant. Cleaning that probably will take more time that previewed.

Second, I'm worried about the dump. Let me explain: in all the reconstructed area, the main buildings are built around little wards (the hofjes) where all services (supplies, security vehicles, waste management) can access the buildings, keeping the streets open for pedestrian transit. Well, the project looks that definitely the hof will be open for public transit. ┐Where will the Roteb truck park? ┐And the furnishers for all these shops? The only possible car access will still be the Van Oldenvarnebeltplein, so ┐how?

Third, I'm interested about the connection with the Metro. For me is strange that the main mezzanine of the Beurs station (in all senses, the main one) with connects with both the Caland and the Erasmus lines, have crappy and subdued exits, and the Beurstraverse mezzanine, with only gives direct access to the Erasmus line, is far more better. I believe a major work in the area can be done, allowing the extension of the metro mezzanine below the Oude Binnenweg and directly to that new building.
