The news is . . . it's wet.

Which, for western Washington in winter, is hardly news at all.

Except when I-5 is closed for 20 miles south of Olympia, train service is suspended from Seattle to Portland, Vancouver and Spokane, The 3 major East-West mountain passes are closed, the towns or Orting, Puyallup, Snoqualmie and even Fife are calling for evacuations, and numerous state highways are closed due to mudslides and water on the roadway.

Rain and flooding are not uncommon here in the winter, but this one's pretty big.

I am not pleased to hear that Amtrak suspended the services again because of the weather. They needs do something to improve that routes and will not allow that happen again!

Don't worry about that Crazy!

I would think it'd be pretty difficult to prevent such closures. Didn't they suspend service because of a landslide or water on the tracks? I imagine it would cost loads of money to fix a problem like that in so many areas and with it happening so infrequently and train ridership as low as it is I can't see the any money going there.

True. I usually expect trains to continue running no matter how bad weather is. I didn't think about landslide and flood. When I lived in southern California, I witnessed several bad landslides and they had to built walls to prevent it from happen again. I wonder if that routes have similar walls?

It may be funny to watch them like that. Wait until some of them get in your way, it is not fun anymore.
