Gauge: 1000 mm
Open to traffic since:
  • Phase 1 - Sousse - Monastir, 12 km, 1984
  • Phase 2 - Monastir - Mahdia 38 km, 1987
Electrified: 25 kV 50 Hz Catenary
Passenger rolling-stock: 6 three-car trains from Ganz-Mávag (Hungary)
Connecting station to long-distance services: Sousse Sud

La ligne du Métro du Sahel relie les principales villes et agglomérations du Sahel.
Cette ligne de 70 Km de long est totalement électrifiée. Elle prend naissance à partir de l’arret Sousse Bab Jedid, traverse Sousse Sud et la zone industrielle de Sousse et contourne Sahline jusqu’à Monastir en desservant au passage l’aéroport et une partie de la zone touristique de Monastir (Dkhila) et le complexe Universitaire de Monastir.
Au sud de Monastir La ligne continue jusqu'à Ksar Hellal et Moknine en passant par la zone industrielle de Monastir et les principales agglomérations situées sur cet axe: Khniss, Ksibet Elmedouini, Bennane, Bouhjar, Lamta et Sayada.
A la sortie de Moknine, elle dessert la zone industrielle de Téboulba et continue jusqu'à Mahdia en desservant les villes de Teboulba, Bekalta, la zone touristique de Mahdia et le complexe Universitaire de Mahdia. Cette ligne est à double voie entre Sousse Bab Jedid et Moknine et à voie unique sur le reste de la ligne.

Les établissements et cités universitaires de :
* Monastir
* Ksar Hellal
* Moknine

22000 Voyageurs empruntent journellement les 46 Trains mis en circulation.

La durée du trajet est de 30 minutes entre Sousse et Monastir et 1 heure entre Monastir et Mahdia.

Also, the SNCFT is planning to get 3 new electric self-propelled metro trains for the Métro Du Sahel.

Yup, exactly; you've got it right Actually Sousse is the only city in Tunisia apart from Tunis, the capital city, to have such a transportation system...Though, the city of Sfax is supposed to have it's own one sometime.
