It is now officially confirmed that Pink line and Yellow line monorail will use the latest 'Innovia Monorail 300' system from Bombardier, called super monorail, which will take 2-3 years to make. The width is equal to the BTS skytrain and it will be a 4-car sets with the capacity to transport 40,000 passengers per hour per direction. The average speed will be 35-80 km/h.

In addition, BTS will also use the Bombardier system with the Gold Line using the 'Innovia APM 300' system. Currently this line is waiting for the BMA to approve the project.

BEM is preparing to buy 35 trains for the MRT Blue line, 7 for the existing blue line and 28 for the blue line extension worth more than 20 billion baht.

They are considering choosing between Siemens, which is used currently for the blue line and JR-East, which is used for the purple line.

There is a high possibility that they will choose Siemens, because it will be easy to connect with the original blue line. If they choose another system, then they will need to update the signaling.

Looking at the latest plans and modelling, it shows that trains from the Blue Line will eventually be able to enter the Purple Line and vice versa. Therefore the signalling and control should be such as to allow Siemens and JR-East to run on either system.

Are there any plans to add cars to the Blue Line trains? I was in Bangkok recently and it was extremely crowded.

Not crowded enough for another carriage for each train! Need to be stuffed like JR Yamanote line to justify more carriages for each train!

Rising demands for Airport Rail Link - passenger number has reached 65000 passengers a day up by 10% while the revenue has reached 300 million baht (about 2 million Baht a day), up by 12% compared with the same period of 2016 (Jan - May 2016) - all due to the ease of access and interchanges by more escalators and elevators and those private run minibuses starting to use stations like Hua mark and Lad Krabang as the ends of their minibus lines

More overhaul is to turn the luggage carriage of Airport expresses (4 carriages) into the passenger carriages to meet the rising demands to be able to handle 90000 passengers a day and add more frequency to reach 8 minute interval during rush hour periods from the current 10 minute interval
and regular period from 12 minute interval to 10- minute interval - the current number of passengers for airport links is 65000 passengers a day with a peak at 73000 passengers a day - quite an achievement compared with the first year of service which has 30000 passengers a day

Need to spend almost a billion Baht for double tracking Saphan Taksin station due to the process in need:

1. construction of new traffic lanes by building the new parallel bridge for Taksin Bridge as a compensation for the old traffic lanes.

2. After the new parallel bridge has been opened, the old traffic lane can be demolished to make the way for the construction of new station building of Sphan Taksin station

3. It is going to take 18 month for the construction of the new station building of Saphan Taksin as a part of double tracking with a budget of a billion Baht

However, the detailed design must be done first.

The Airport Link has never stopped running, only the Airport Express trains were stopped and will not run again until the line is extended to Don Muang Airport. The City Line trains, which also run from the Airport but stop at every station, have continued to run from the Airport to Phayathai station, however the carriages are only 3 car units against the Airport Express trains which are 4 car sets. Because the City Line has become so popular the trains arrive packed at Hua Mark during the rush hours and it can be impossible for waiting passengers to get on the trains. Therefore they started converting the 4th carriage of the Airport Express trains, which carry luggage, into passenger carriages. It is proposed that the Airport Express Trains will be replaced by the HST - Don Muang Airport - Suvarnaphum Airport - Pattaya - Utapao Airport - Rayong.

Construction on MRTA Orange line started on 10 July 2017 while the construction of Yellow Monorail (30.4 km at 52 billion Baht) will start on Sri Nakharin road near Wat Sri Iam Interchange in August - September 2017 - after the settlement with Highway Dept on the issue of using the area around Wat Sri Iam Interchange for depot along with park and ride.

However, Highway Dept telling MRTA and BSR about the new drainage trench along the footpaths as they are going to convert the drainage trench along Sri Nakharin road into Island before erecting pillars

For the case of pink monorail (34.5 km at 54 billion Baht), Highway Dept allow MRTA and BSR to use Laksi Highway Office to construct Laksi station but they have to redesign to minimize the usage of the highway dept land.

After the construction of Orange line from Minburi to Thailand cultural center along with Pink monorail from Kae Rai to Minburi and Yellow monorail from Lad Phrao to Samrong, the next on the line is the Western extension of Orange line MRT from Thailand Cultural Center to Bang Khun Nont - 16.4 km at 110 billion Baht and Southern extension of Purple line MRT from Tao Poon to Krunai (Kanchanaphisek ring) via Rat Boorana - 23.6 km at 131,171 Million Baht.

For the case of Orange line MRT, the construction started in front of Mistine company in Saphan SOong district on 10 July 2017

However, MRTA will have to ensure that the underwater tunnel across chao Phraya section of Orange line would not harm the structure of Phra Pinklao Bridge while the underwater tunnel across chao Phraya section of Purple line would not harm the structure of Phra Pokklao Bridge and the underground section of Purple line near Mahaisawan intersection would not harm Rama 3 Bridge

MRTA now asking cabinet to approve a quick land exappropriation within 60 days instead of waiting for Land exappropriation act which takes 2 years to finish.
