Are there still plans to link Sirirat with Makkasan? I thought I have seen some old maps that show this connection.

I donít think so, it was shown on some of the early master plan, but SRT had never talked about this section. The second phase of Bangkok mass transit master plan by OTP is set to be released to the public sometimes next year, and we will know by then what new lines will be included and which old lines that are not feasible will be scrapped. Grey line, brown line and gold line are among the new lines that are confirmed to be included in the second phase.

Direct link between Siriraj and Makkasan is not likely. But both stations will be linked indirectly via Bang Sue as part of SRT Red Line Missing Link extensions. The extensions are currently put on hold by SRT despite having been approved by the Cabinet long ago. This because it requires SRT to close the tracks between Bang Sue and Hua Lamphong which sees heavy traffic during the day (100+ train services in and out Hua Lamphong each day). SRT therefore postpone the project until Bang Sue Central is complete and operational and all of the services be moved to the new hub in 2020.

A Phase II Master Plan, approved by the 5 Government Agencies, was published in August 2016. This omitted the Brown Line and shows the revised route of the Grey Line Monorail. Are you referring to a revised Phase II Master Plan or will it be a Phase III? I understand that the Brown Line may even reappear in Phase III as well as an extension to the Gold, Yellow and Pink Lines. I must say that they love Master Plans. In 1997 I worked on the BMA Bangkok Solid Waste Master Plan. Since then there have been several new Master Plans issued without much implementation. I was amazed to read in the BP yesterday, that in response to the increasing problems with waste and pollution, they have announced that they need a Master Plan.

Do you mean this map? 06/09/2016. That is not an official map, but a map made by a Thai forumer Khun archstudent.

The one I'm talking about is the official (M-MAP2) phase II master plan by OTP with the help of JICA (japan), which has not been released yet.

All other maps are mostly the original OTP map of phase I with 10 mass transit lines + add-ons proposed lines made by different agencies or Thai rail fans.

The M-MAP2 will focus on linking Bangkok's suburbs and neighboring cities.

The plan includes:

1. Review the current state of the project under the Master Plan for Mass Transit Transport. In the Bangkok Metropolitan Area, they will look at the progress of each projects in the responsibility of various agencies and review the suitability of the mass transit network and the project that has already been defined, but has not yet been built.

2. Analysis of transportation network and urban demand. The concept of linking and integrating public transport and urban development.

3. Conceptual framework and master plan for mass transit system. Phase 2 (M-MAP2)

4. Publicity of the Master Plan for Mass Transit System Development to build understanding and cooperation from the people.

Suvarnabhumi Airport Phase II Automated People Mover

Interlink Communication Public Company Limited has ordered Airval Automated People Mover for the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. @SiemensMobility will deliver six two-car trains and the communication Based Train Control System (CBTC) for fully automated operation. The Airval system will connect the current airport terminal with the new satellite terminal with a top speed of 80km/h and available of 24/7. With the rubber tires, the Airval trains can easily handle steeper grades and are considerable quieter than other rail systems in curves. The line will be approximately one kilometer with four parallel tracks and two stations. The project will be commissioned in 2020.
