That green line on the picture is an extension and it hasn't been built yet. Same thing with the Red line on the pic.

SRT Dark Red line (Bang Sue - Rangsit) 26 km.
Can't start yet, because the bid winner, SU Joint Venture, quoted the cost at 31 billion baht while the cabinet had allocated only 27.17 billion baht for the project. A committee would be set up to discuss the issue.
The total cost for this projects will be sent to the Ministry of Transport after the conclusion of the meeting on april 18. A new meeting will be held on 20-23 april for the conclusion of this project.

Airport Link may see new share structure as Don Mueang made No 2 facility

The Nation May 3, 2012 1:00 am

The government is considering adjusting the shareholding structure of the Airport Rail Link by inviting the private sector and Airports of Thailand (AOT) to hold stakes in the project so as to smooth the policy to use Don Mueang as Bangkok's second airport, said Virabongsa Ramakura, chairman of the Strategic Committee for Reconstruction and Future Development.

Virabongsa said during a keynote speech titled "The Strategy of Thailand after 2015" during a seminar held by the Federation of Thai Industries that congestion at Suvarnabhumi Airport was very serious. Annual passenger numbers are as high as 48 million, so the government cannot avoid using Don Mueang Airport as the capital's second aviation facility.

However, he said problems related to the Airport Rail Link might be an obstacle to providing efficient transport between Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang. The service is a state enterprise under the State Railway of Thailand, so its management may not be flexible.

"The government therefore is thinking of adjusting the shareholding structure of the Airport Rail Link. AOT and private firms may be the new shareholders. If we can do this, we will extend the route from Phaya Thai to Don Mueang Airport. Construction may take three years," he said.

Virabongsa added that Thai AirAsia, the country's largest budget airline, had been asked to move its operations from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang. It is likely to accept the idea, but is asking for the firm commitment of the government not to change its airport policy in the future. The government may have to offer incentives to these budget airlines.

He said that if the government can use Don Mueang as the second Bangkok airport officially, it expected 12 million passengers to move to that facility annually, easing the congestion at Suvarnabhumi.

In a separate matter, Virabongsa said he expected the economy to continue its recovery in the second half of the year. The government is forecast to collect more value-added tax thanks to increased consumer spending. But the downside to the improved economy is that it will aggravate the labour shortage. Meanwhile, alien workers from Myanmar are likely to move back to their own country as its economy grows.

No one would disagree with you on that last sentence. Basically the money is allocated, the elevated link is basically designed after the initial design had problems but some other issues have held up the start of construction which was meant to be completed by June 2012.

Hopefully, by late this year or early next......obviously it should have been done originally but then that would have taken forethought.

What are the fares of Express and regular service trains from Airport to Phaya Thai station? I'll have to use it in a few weeks time. Can't wait!

No it won't as it is not complete. Civil works not yet 100% done, 96.80% as at end of April (http://www.railway.co.th/resultproje...edline=5504201). Then systems & electricals to be completed. Then testing. Rolling Stock still not ordered so using old SRT DMUs. I am guessing mid 2013?
  2. Purple line (Bansue - Bang Yai) - 23 km
    • 41% complete and will be operational in 2015.
Going well and on track (pardon the pun). Was 2014 but last years floods added significant delays
  3. Blue line (Bangsue - Ta Phra & Hualamphong - Bang Kae) - 27 km
    • 12% complete and will be operational in 2016.
Plus 6 months due to last years floods so expect 2017
  4. Light Green line extension (Bearing - Samut Prakan) - 12.8 km
    • Construction begun this year and will be operational in 2016.
Preliminary works had not yet begun as of end of April. Deadline still looks good if no delays but last 2 BTS exts have been delayed in opening by 2 years or more.
  5. Dark Red line (Bangsue - Rangsit) - 26 km
    • Open for bidding and will be operational in 2015.
Given delays with the bid, 2015 looks highly unlikely.
  6. Dark Green line extension (Mo Chit - Sapan Mai) - 11.4 km
    • In the process of adjusting the plan. Bidding will begin this year and it will be operational in 2016.
This ext was originally scheduled to open in 2008 and for the last 6 years it has been said work will commence "next year". Wait and see...

  7. Pink line (Kaerai - Minburi) - 34.5 km
    • In the process of reviewing the plan. Bidding will begin this year and it will be operational in 2016.
Is considered a priority but still monorail unless another review changes it to heavy rail which would be the sensible option.
  8. Orange line (Talling Chan - Thailand Cultural Center - Minburi) - 37.5 km
    • In the process of studying and designing the plan. Bidding will begin this year. The Thailand Cultural Center - Minburi part will get a priority.
Expect tender next year I would suggest?
  9. Airport Rail Link Extension (Don Muang Airport - Bang Sue - Phayathai) - 21.8 km
    • Waiting for EIA. Bidding will begin in 2013.
Now an advanced timeline since the govt. changed to a 2 airport policy 2 months ago. Thus, they need the ext to DMK earlier than was planned.
  10. Yellow line (Lad Phrao - Pattanakarn - Samrong) - 30.4 km
    • In the process of reviewing details of the plan.
1st Phase Lat Phrao to Hua Mark by 2017-19??

Total = 239.4 km
Khun Codeman has kindly translated the Prachachat table. However, as with much of the thai press where reporters glibly report info without fact checking or doing much research there is some patently incorrect info given. The reality has been that every mass transit project in BKK in the last 10 years has been significantly delayed for a combination of reasons. Some of these projects are already delayed. I have added a few comments in bold.

Not correct. An interchange has always been planned. The problem is that is occurs at Laksi Monument Circle (a large traffic roundabout at grade with an NS underpass and an EW overpass) and as both lines curve as this intersection - more so the pink line - in order to avoid the actual small Laksi monument. Thus, the planned interchange will involve a pedestrian link of some 600m or so.

All a bit silly as both lines could conceivably have direct interchange stations, one above the other, but there you go.

The table came out before news about the delays of Dark Red line, Dark Green line extension and the late update of the Light Red line from SRT. However the rest of the table is correct.

For the Blue line, the delays from the flood had already been taken into account. It is delayed from 2015 to 2016.

Same with Purple line. Delayed from the end of 2014 to the beginning of 2015.

For the Dark Green line extension, it is delayed by 6 months as it does not pass EIA.

For the Light Green line extension, I mixed up March and May as construction is set to begin in May this month, which is also what was witten in the table. My fault.

For the Dark Red line, the problem is set to be solved within this month.

And the Pink line is already set to be a monorail with 6 more stations added to the line.
