Good to see Bangkok investing in such methods of commuting. Asian cities due to their size and urban design should utilize more of the advantages mass transit can give.

I love the way Bangkok is going from a car crazy city to a public transport one, however just one quick question - why the need to make all the new lines elevated when they don't need to be. For example the new airport line really only needs to elevated in some sections, could have saved a lot of money by building the non-dense urban sections at ground level, putting up a wire fence to stop people walking on the tracks, and building road overpasses where need be. This obsession with every new line being built miles above ground is rather weird, and costly

for the SRT Dark red line and Bang Sue Grand station to finish construction in 2018 to be fully usable)

Elevated lines are cheaper to build than underground lines, however all lines must go underground in the old city area.

The reason they are not at ground level is because many lines are being built in the middle of major roads and in dense urban area. Lines like Airport Rail link are built along the railway line, but they are some instances with the red line, where they have built a road overpass, but that is because is it in a non dense urban area. Generally wire fence don't work here and people will walk pass them regardless.
