My contacts involved in the bidding, have said only that SCOMI is rejected and that the client is going for a Chinese JV. Hitachi or Chinese JV .Bombardier monorail trains. The Bombardier trains can run driverless and with their control system can run the trains with a 75 second headway. The current Hitachi monorail needs a driver and there is no central control system so that Hitachi may not be able to fulfill the passengers/direction/hour requirement unless they pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Private sector has to accept the personnel, asst and right to run

After PPP Board accepting SRT plan for concession - it will need cabinet approval in April 2017, the bidding invitation issued in June 2017 and bidding process started in September 2017. It will need cabinet approval for the bid winner in December 2017 - Jan 2018 so the contract for the construction signed in Feb 2018. It will take 4 years to finish the extension from Bangsue to Donmueang via Phayathai with the distance of 20.7 km - with a hope to get the number of passenger at 217,140 passenger a day while private sector is going to run Phayathai to Suvannabhum airport link in 2018. The EMU sets will be 160 kph max which private sector is going to purchase at 13 set of 4 car formation (52 carriages) of city line type - so Alsthom, Siemens and Marubeni (Japanese trading firm) along with BTS are paying attention to this project

Awesome. I really appreciate the scuttlebutt! Keep it coming if you hear anything more please. I'm guessing things will be official by April?

Awaiting cabinet approval in March 2017. Contract signing should be April and BSR are keen to break ground quickly. Normally we allow one month for mobilization.

From contract signing does BSR have 3 years and 3 months to get service up and running?

Yes... but they will try to finish early as it is to their benefit.

Just got some photos from the CEOs of the BSR Consortium. They were in Malaysia on the weekend visiting SCOMI, they reached Shanghai China last night (Sunday) to visit the two Chinese JV. factories of Hitachi and Bombardier.

Are the JVs of both not owned by the same parent company, CRRC? If so, Hitachi is screwed. CRRC has chosen the Innovia as its vehicle to capture the domestic monorail market. Can't see CRRC wanting to compete against itself.

The two Companies are Hitachi JV (Changchun Railway Vehicles Co. Ltd
- Chongqing City China) and Bombardier JV (CSR Nanjing Puzhen - Nanjing). Effectively they are competing subsidiaries of CRRC. The decision is ultimately with BTS CEO Keree. It is possible that they have been looking at SCOMI for the Gold line monorail as the BMA are very short of cash and it is a short line which needs to be up and running pretty quickly. I should know more after our meeting on 16th February.

I am an independent consultant but I do have shares in BTS. I have a lot friends who either own or work for these companies as I have been doing business here since 1982. If you live in Bangkok, are an Engineer and are interested in Infrastructure Development, I suggest that you come along to the Society of Professional Engineers Thailand (SPET) which meets on the third Thursday of the Month 18.30hrs at the British Club Silom Rd. There is always a monthly update on the progress of construction.

BSR JV Yellow and Pink Monorail CEO's Visit to Monorail train manufacturers: Just got come photos of the CEOs visit to Hitachi JV factory in Chongching China. I do not seem to be able to post photos here, but I must say that the latest Hitachi Monorail trains in the process of manufacture by Changchun Railway vehicles are impressive. These trains are driverless with central computer control now so they should be able to compete with Bombardier's driverless monorail train offer. However, they do say they need an "attendant". Judging by the photos I believe that BSR were very impressed with the Hitachi/Changchun monorail trains, but Khun Keree of BTS would not say which monorail train he will choose.
