Comboio volta apitar no Huambo dentro de 60 dias

Quote:

alegria a população desta região”, destacou.

Reconstruction of Moçâmedes railroad in Angola 70 pct concluded

July 29th, 2011 News

Luanda, Angola, 29 July – Work to rebuild Angola’s Moçâmedes railroad, which began in 2006 and due to end in December, is over two third complete, the chairman of the company that manages the facility, Daniel Quipaxe said Thursday.

At the end of a visit by the governor of Huíla province, Isaac dos Santos, to work being carried out on the railway stations of Lubango and the work to compact the platforms at Arimba da Chanja stations, Quipaxe gave assurances that 680 kilometres of a total 970 kilometres of the line were concluded, between Namibe (the current name of Moçâmedes) and Menongue in the province of Cuando Cubango.

China is responsible for most of the investment in the railroad, which has been funded through a US$2 billion credit line provided by the Export Import Bank.

India is also involved in funding the railroad.

In relation to reconstruction work on the railway stations, the manager said that the stations built in the municipalities of Matala, Jamba, Kuvango and Menongue were due to be delivered in August and the remainder in December.

Quipaxe also said that the rail bridge over the Giraúl River, in Namibe province, which was recently destroyed by floods, would be finished in November. (macauhub)

They might be slow by comparing them with French, Japanese or German high-tech trains....but Angola´s railways are by far the best outside South Africa.

and who knows maybe someday there will be a high-speed train in Angola...in my yes, it is not the priority of the country at its current stage of development to take a ride 500km/h

Modern schools, universities, hospitals highways, entire and COMPLETE slum demolishment (which is ongoing), heavily subsidized housing for the poor, tons of jobs for the youth, modern and livable cities with a great urban lifestyle and a diversified economy should be top on the agenda.

I don't think they are very slow...I rode in one of them form Viana to Porto de Luanda only 30 minutes with a lot of stoppages. They are ok! It would be dumb to build high speed train in Angola at this stage. Maybe in 15 years.

these are limited in speed by being narrow gauge. They should have built standard gauge like the rest of Africa is doing now.

yeah, how fortunate that they have spent a lot of money building a system that other African nations are getting rid off. Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania etc etc are all investing in fast standard gauge networks but I guess they are not so fortunate

Get over it! You always raise this point. Regardless of the validity of your comment, the reality is that they are being built in a non-standard gauge. So no crying over spilled milk, right?
